There's nothing wrong with wanting to take care of your car. I don't understand why this is so annoying to others.

Thank God I live in Sunny South Texas. (WAAaaay south texas)
10 miles from mexico/us border.
Only put my heater on 2 times in the past 2 years.
Has only snowed 1 time in over 100 yrs.
It hardly rains.
BUT, on the flip side. The heat-soak factor, humidity and sea-level makes for track heck
Best i've run is a 13.8 with exhaust, pullies, tune, intake and 4:10's.

If you are putting the car away you should have left the old oil in it. You are going to have to change the oil once you get it out of storage and it won't be any better having new oil sitting in the oil pan. You are just wasting money on extra oil.
If you are putting the car away you should have left the old oil in it. You are going to have to change the oil once you get it out of storage and it won't be any better having new oil sitting in the oil pan. You are just wasting money on extra oil.
The main reason to change oil is due to breakdown of the additives, and
formation of acids in the oil from sulpher contamitation in the oil. Not so
much particle contamination. Base oil stock is much the same for all brands
of oil, and rarely breaks down to any serious degree. The additive package
is what changes from one brand to the other. Oil manufacturers are well
aware that their oil will get mixed with that of the competition at some
point in time, so they do try to ensure their additives will not react with
others. But it is all about the additives. For that reason it is better to
change the oil before the winter so acids will not form, and your oil
contains fresh corrosion inhibitors. If the oil is fresh in the fall, it
will most likely be fine in the spring. The oil change interval is more tied
to the age (time it has been in the engine) than the number of Km driven.
For more winter storage tips, check out the "winter storage" topics in the car care section.
