RPMs reving up and down
I have a 2006 V6 manual with 1000 miles on it. I noticed while idling at a stop light in nuetral the RPMs jumped a small amount, say 100-200. People said this was somewhat normal so I shrugged it off. Now I have a bigger problem that doesn't seem normal.
Today when driving home I was going down a hill so I put her in nuetral and coasted. The RPMs started reving up and down from 1000-2000. It kept doing it over and over as long as I was coasting in nuetral. It was a slow rev as if I was pressing the gas. Once it got up to around 2100 it would go back down to 1000 and then rev up again until I put it in gear.
The air conditioning was on so I turned that off and still did the same. Then I was on flat road in a 45 speed limit area. So I put it in nuetral again and coasted and same results. I stepped on the gas a little in nuetral a few times to see maybe if it was stuck somehow but no it kept on doing the same thing.
I could see maybe jumping a little bit, but jumping 1100 RPMs doesn't seem right. So what is the problem? Should I take it in or see if it goes away?

mine does that, it will go between 500 and 2000 rpms.
but i found that after i start the car if i let it run for a few minutes before driving off, letting the rpms settle down to normal it wont fluctuate..

Mine does the same thing, my guess it was the computer trying to keep up as well, but I have just noticed it recently. If this is so, do I need to stop coasting as well, is this revving in neutral damaging to the engine?
Mine does the same thing.. I have heard of the Gremlins of 1967 which haunted the Ford factory cause this..
So I have gotten used to the little suckers.. They wont hurt anything, they are just excited about the new Mustangs like us.. There old, from the year 1967.. Buy'em a hamburger or something.. I normally leave a half eaten burger in the trunk, this keeps them happy!
I dont want to scare anyone, but late one nite while putting the gas in the car, I saw something like this peek out at me through the driver side 1/4 window.. When I opened the door, he was gone.. All I could hear was the faint sound of a giggle coming from the trunk.. I opened the trunk and nothing.. Then i researched it, and this is what I found..
so if you ever put gas in the car real late at night, avoid looking into the driver side 1/4 window..
