route 66 cruise

Would anyone be interested in doing a Route 66 cruise on Labor Day weekend. I was thinking about leaving the San Diego area Saturday morning heading up to Barstow to 66 and heading east. Going to about Flagstaff for the night and heading back Sunday. Maybe a little further if we get a good group and driving back Monday. Be easy to stop along the way to pick anyone up thats from AZ or around the border area. For most of us it wouldn't be a question of time but gas money. So whose in?

Sounds cool. The only prob is I'm at the other end. Been contemplating making the entire trip from Chicago to LA. Thought I might do it next summer and bring my son with me.

Either one of you be willing to meet at the border and cruise to the Canyon, or cruise from there to the border?

So you are going up the 15 to Barstow? I'm off the 15 between the 91 and 60 freeways. Sounds like fun. Tell me more... I may be able to join in!

Taking the trip Labor Day weekend. Leaving Aug 30th, coming back either the 31st or the 1st of Sep. I was planning on taking the 15 to the 40, then catching the first stretch of 66 heading east. I havn't drivien the 66 on the CA side. The AZ side we drove in my wifes explorer about two weeks ago coming back from the Grand Canyon. There was just a different vibe coming from the road. I could just feel all the history. Theres a pretty good section that goes through the mountains that has some good twisties and awesome views. A number of good places to take photos or videos of cars coming around corners and heading up/down the mountain. I wanted to go back out the Canyon, but this time take the hike down to the bottom. If the guys from AZ want to join in, we could meet around the Canyon then cruise west on 66 back to the border, about 4 - 5 hours, but definatly a great stretch of road. The little towns along the way all have there own personalities. We ate dinner at a place in the moutains where everyone colors a dollar bill and staples it to the wall or ceiling. Be happy to meet you in Barstow or where ever.

Since no one has dedicated to this I think I will change my plans to go Memorial Day next year. This will give me time to do more research and get the word out. Sorry mrkabc, but couldn't get anyone else but you and I to seem interested. I will make another thread once I get some details about the plans for next year. What better weekend to cruise 66 anyway then Memorial Day.

Keep me in mind for the future cruise! My Pony is all waxed up and ready to go too!

Ah well... best laid plans, etc...
