The Restyled Stang. 1 year delay....
Not sure if this is anywhere else, but I thought I'd share.
From Autoweek....
Ford Mustang; Lincoln, Mercury coupes
The Ford Mustang will be restyled for the 2010 model year, one year later than previously planned.
The Mustang is likely to get a bigger engine developed under the Hurricane program. The main Hurricane engine is expected to have a 6.2-liter displacement, but a 5.8-liter is also possible. Ford could revive the Boss name to brand the engines.
Ford has pledged to keep the Mustang nameplate fresh by doing special versions each model year. The 2007 model year marks the debut of the Shelby GT500 coupe and convertible, powered by a 500-hp, 5.4-liter V-8. Production will be limited to about 9,000 units.
Designers have worked on a Lincoln coupe based on the Mustang platform. Planners also have considered a Mercury version of the Mustang. But it is unclear whether either vehicle will make it into the product plan.

Unfortuatley that is correct
While the reskinned model was supposed to drop for the 45th anniversary, and apparantley all the engineering work is done, they pushed it back one more model year. Hopefully there is improved content, optimistically, they have an extra year to perfect it.

Yeah, I'm in the selfish camp too, unfortunately. Keeps my 05 looking new for one extra year, and keeps our products in focus for an extra year before we have to re-tool for the new body. I might have to consider building one to race for next season, now knowing that it will be a advertising-viable chassis for another season or two beyond its original projections.
While this has been mentioned in other threads, sounds about right - would like to think the decision was made due to the solid sale numbers for the 197 but given the latest news regarding the Big 3, Toyota getting the #2 spot etc, probably made primarily for financial reasons. Just think of all the extra 'goodies" SHR can now come out with given another year!
Actually, I was thinking just that. Plus, in the long run this will be good for all 05-09 owners, since there will be more parts in the recycle pipeline, more aftermarket support, OEM upgrading during the run, etc... being an owner of a 73, and knowing how long it took the aftermarket to start making reproduction parts for it, I can say that long term this will be a good thing, much the same way it was good for all the Fox body owners to have such a long production run of basically the same car (79-93)
To some degree yes. However, I think it's part of the overall Way Forward plan… By delaying the new mustang a year, they can focus their energy on revamping their line to be more competitive quicker. They have a lot of new vehicles in the works right now. They are concentrating on better styling, refinement and fuel economy. Face it. The Japs are kicking their butts. Since the Mustang is not having any problems with sales, they can afford to hold off a year on refreshing it and by doing so, bring other vehicles to market faster.
im glad my 05 will still look new, but i cant stand waiting to see what the new design is going to look like. i was hoping to see a sneak peak next year at detroit, just a concept of the approach they are taking.
Yeah I'll have to hold off now on any SE but by the '10 model year my car will be nearly paid off so maybe that'll be the right time (assuming it looks as good and the motor is of significant enough improvement).
