Great thread topic Mike. I wasn't in the market AT ALL. I LOVE my '97 Silverado Z71 pick up and my '35 Chevy ZZ top hotrod.. and then I saw the cornfield commercial with Steve McQueen and said, "That's freakin' awesome.. I gotta have that." So that weekend went and test drove but resisted putting a deposit down 'cause I knew it was an impulsive decision. Two days later I said to myself, "Who am I kidding?" and left a deposit.
Deposit left 11/26 expected delivery date Feb/March

I wasn't in the market for a car either, I saw my first glimpse of the 2005 on TechTV one morning last Februrary, they were covering the Detroit Auto Show, and the Cobra concept. Off to the side was the new Mustang, I about crapped my pants when I saw that first glimpse.
I declared on the spot that I would have one, there was one catch....My wife said if I get my Mustang, she gets her SUV.
So I went from not being in the market for a car at all, to buying 2 new ones in a years time.
She got the 2004 Honda Pilot

If it wasn't for the following 3 vehicles:
Of the 3 vehicles listed above, the Mustang was the best value.
- '05 Corvette(C6)
- '05 Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited(TJUL)
- '05 Mustang GT(S197)
Of the 3 vehicles listed above, the Mustang was the best value.

I'm a mustang guy, and I usually replace my mustang every 3-4 years. It just so happens that my 02 will be off lease in april, so the timing to get an 05, is about perfect. If the 05 wasn't the new car, and if the new mustang wasn't on the horizon either, I would still be getting one, even if it was the 99-04 body style.

honestly I was really looking to buy a late 60's GT or Shelby next Summer. But when I saw the '05 up close and personal, I changed my mind. The '05 really has all the bases covered, it has the looks of the 60's enough base power to build on and the peace of mind that it is a brand new vehicle with a warranty.
Just curious,
Mike

I planned on getting a 68 or 69, and then I went to the car show and saw the concept Stang. I was really impressed, but held myself in check. I knew that often they change cars a LOT by the time they get to production.
When I saw the production car at last years show, I knew right then that I had to have one. Luckily I also just got a raise, and so I can afford it!

I'd been planning to buy something in 05 and considered a replacement SUV or sedan but saw nothing at all that excited me till I realized what Ford was doing with the new Stang. We have been enjoying our 66 convertible for all our married lives and I had always loved the styling of the 67 even more. Seeing the 05 concept pics finished any thoughts of buying a lesser car. Now I'll keep the others and add this to our growing fleet! Our teens are starting to drive so they will get opportunities behind the wheel of the new Mustang which is why I am getting the 5 spd manual tranny but the lower testosterone V6 Premium.

Mike, I'm in the same boat as you. My last Mustang was a 65 Fastback. I've been searching Ebay and other sources for a steal on a 65, 66 Fastback or a Shelby (I'm a couple years away from affording a Shelby). Once I saw the 05, I was sold. I ordered a GT with a build date of 12/13 in October. This car satisfies all of my needs and desires. A lot of folks are nitpicking what the car is missing but I believe Ford had hit a Grand Slam. My only problem is that in several years, everyone will be driving one.

I am currently driving a 2002 Chevy Silverado Z-71. I am one of the lucky ones that got a Chevy with the infamous knock (Like a Knock vs. Like a Rock). GM wont do #%$& about it. I have watched the progression of the new Mustang design and said, what the heck. No more GM for me so I placed order yesterday.

I've had my Escort for four years so was thinking maybe about something new... my brother and I had talked about the new Mustang - I had an '88 GT and really liked it but nothing in the later Mustangs had really grabbed hold of me hard (other than Cobras or the like). When I first saw the concept, I thought 'Wow pretty neat' but again no major jones.
When I finally saw the first pics of the production model..... it just HAD me. Right around that time, I found myself with the financial means to buy one and was pretty determined to go for it. After that first pic of the Titanium silver one at the auto show earlier this year, I instantly said (After picking my jaw up off the floor) that I WOULD HAVE ONE.
And its a milestone for me too, as the first brand new sports car I have ever bought.

I was not in the market. I have a 2003 f-150 Screw that I love, I would not have made the move really for any other car. When I saw the first production photos of the new stang, it reminded so much of my dream car, a yellow 69 boss 302, that I had to do it.
I used my truck for work as well as personal, so the stang is requiring me to make some changes to the way I do things, but it is all worth it

How many people are buying the '05 Mustang, who really were not in the market to buy a new car?

I became a mustang fan in 02 when I bought a V6 Coup. One year later, my fiance has the coup and I buy a GT Convertible, Centennial edition. If this car was not Black, I might have put up with it for two more years, but I was tired of cleaning it every three days. I put around 25,000 miles a year on my car and felt that the 05 was a good value so I traded my 03 GT Vert for an 05 GT Coup.

Absolutely no need for a new car, I have owned a mustang of sorts for the last 20 yrs purely as a fun car ( they are not sold in the UK). I have my 10 second 90GT and a Crossfire company car for a daily driver at the moment ( I work for a Chrysler Jeep dealer) but fell for the '05 & just had to get one. It will be my weekend car & the 90 will be my monthly car!

Well ever since I traded in my 89 GT back in 97 for a vw jetta VR6 i have been regreting it ever since...Then I got tired of getting stuck in the snow so I bought a 2002 just blue nissan xterra...then I saw the concept and told myself I would be getting the cobra version as soon as it comes out because it comes out as soon as I graduate from nursing school so if that puts me in the market lol yes I dream about that 07 cobra everyday
