I think that was P.T. Barnum that was credited with it, although most think it it was 'a customer bought every minute', and someone with sour grapes changed it in his bio.

the one that ended today went for $202.50

BTW - I started the auctions at 29.99 and 39.99 ... supply vs demand determined the final bid prices

I Bet....

the people making so much money off of fellow Mustang owners for this item are the first to bark about dealership mark ups on GT500's, aftermarket parts, etc. Look in the mirror and tell me what's the difference? I guess when it's YOUR pockets that are being filled that suddenly makes it okay. Oh yeah, I understand now.
I realize if someone's stupid enough to pay the prices these things are going for then that's supply and demand. As the saying goes, there's an **** for every seat.

Whatever man....I have 2 sets that I was able to get at $49/set....mine, however won't be on e-bay. so what if these people made a couple of bucks??? They didn't have the reserve set at $200.00. people bid up to it.....blame them.

If dealers put GT500's on ebay and set the reserve at MSRP don't you think they would still sell for $10000 over??? Who is to blame then.....the dealer or a customer that REALLY wants a Shelby???

If I put my badges on ebay and set the reserve at my cost to purchase ($55), and 2 bidders really want it, how should we decide who ultimately gets the badges if we don't give it to the top bidder? I like Bob better than John so Bob gets them. Would John think that was fair?

Like you said, no one is twisting these people's arms to buy the silly pieces of plastic. As far as ADMs go, I won't pay them. Nor would I buy these silly badges for $200. But apparently many folks want GT 500s and plastic badges really bad. What should be done to stop this practice? Abolishing free market capitalism has been tried (1917-1989), but it didn't work out so well.

I had NO reserve on my auctions... started the first one at 39.99 and the second one at 29.99 .. less than what I paid for them .. people want them that bad - they'll pay for them ...
as far as the GT500 - I walked into the dealership - saw the markup over MSRP on it and went another route ... If somebody doesn't want to shell out 150-200 bucks for the PBF emblems they can opt for the Scott Drake version for 25 bucks each.
When this whole PBF emblem Thread was started here ..I posted it on another forum and had several people tell me it was a rediculous price at $49.00 for "$12.00 emblems" - guess not.
being that these are not available at your Ford Parts counter and ARE NOT AVAILABLE PERIOD other than who currently has them ... $200 might be a bargain soon.
maybe the original sellers at $49 were selling them TOO cheap - with the amount of interest and how quickly they sold - I would think thats fair to say .. I personally would have paid $100.00 originally ..not knowing what the deal was - just the fact I WANTED them ..without knowing the apparent "story" behind them - now they appear to be much more desireable.. the true value of these?? - well, the market is dictating that right now.
I was talking to the aftermarket parts guy at my local dealership... the DAY before this thread was first started I asked him if he could see about getting me a pair of these ..he said he'd be making a call since he was looking for a pair for his own vehicle .. I went in there today and he had an "oh by the way..." about them .. he said that they can ONLY be had by showing proof of ownership AND you have to SEND them back the damaged ones!

The plastic powered by ford emblems are made by Ford Racing, and were originally going to be released as a separate piece until Shelby decided to make it unique to the Shelby GT. What happened was that website that sold them was able to snag a bunch before Ford Racing caught on and stopped it. That's why he had them. They won't make that mistake again.

Boy do I feel lucky again to have gotten a pair or two before all the craze! Kudos to all of you who were in on the original purchase with me and I for one don't feel bad for anyone that gets a set and is willing to pay a premium to do so. Supply and demand. I only wish I would have bought more sets!
