Power point usable for lighter?

Probably a dumb question but ...

Yes, I am still one of the "lepers of the new millenium" a smoker.
Can the power point in the dash be used for an actual lighter?
I can get a universal one for cheap and just thought ... it is awful hard to use a Bic with the top down at 80.

The user manual for the 2013 says do not use the power points for a cigarette lighter.

I have a feeling the parts may be different for an '07.
After all, they sell a "smokers' kit" with a cupholder-fit ashtray and lighter.
I have to wonder where they thought you would plug it in?

This says it is compatible with every year since '79:

I was just hoping someone had some actual first-hand knowledge.

The 2007 Owners Manual says
The power point is an additional
power source for electrical
accessories. The power points are
located on the instrument panel and
inside the center console storage
bin.
Do not use the power point for
operating the cigarette lighter
element (if equipped).
To prevent the fuse from being
blown, do not use the power point(s) over the vehicle capacity of 12
VDC/180W/15A.
To prevent the battery from being discharged, do not use the power
point longer than necessary when the engine is not running.
Always keep the power point caps closed when not being used.

Cigarette/Cigar lighter (if equipped)
Do not plug optional electrical accessories into the cigarette lighter
socket.
Do not hold the lighter in with your hand while it is heating, this will
damage the lighter element and socket. The lighter will be released from
its heating position when it is ready to be used.
Improper use of the lighter can cause damage not covered by your
warranty.

So is it bad that I leave my car charger plugged into the power point in the center console all the time? My phone is not always being charged but its always plugged into the car.

I am guessing then that IF one got the cigar lighter option, the socket is different. So I should probably be able to pull the power point and replace it with lighter receptacle. Sounds like the dash will have to come off, etc.
Bummer.

It might be a matter of bigger fuses or more heat shielding for the dash, something along those lines. Try looking on google to see if you can find out what the smoker's package actually was.

Seems to me that if nothing is plugged into the end of the power cable (e.g. your phone) it should not be drawing any power. If your plug has a light that comes on and it is not on, that should be a dead give away.

It does though...in fact if I plug my phone into the charger with the car OFF, the phone will still charge. I have tire air pressure pump that plugs into the power point as well. Even when my car is off, no key in the ignition, if I plug the pump in, it turns on. So it seems power still comes out if the car is off. I'm just wondering that as long as nothing is plugged, it shouldn't be drawing power. Only if something is plugged in that would receive the power.

Theres still some parasitic power being drawn by a phone charger without anything plugged into it. Pretty miniscule though. I leave mine plugged in 24/7 without any problems. But I also drive my car almost every day so the battery is always getting topped off. If you went weeks without starting it, maybe that would have an impact.

Okay cool. Pretty much same situation here. I've had my car for over a year now and have always left it plugged in and nothings happened. Like you, I drive just about everyday. Good to know.

The inside of a power point it not the same as a lighter socket. Lighter sockets are designed foe the high heat of the coil in the lighter and also has spring clips to hold the lighter in until it is hot enough to then release. I would bet if you put a lighter in the power point socket it wouldn't even work.

I took a lighter out of an old Dodge Caravan I used to drive and it works perfectly in the center stack power point. Never had an issue. I wouldn't worry about it.
