Power Door Trim Switch Inhibit

So I'm sitting in the car for about 10 minutes while my wife is in Walgreens. Figure I'd whip out the owner's manual to kill a few minutes. On pg 72 of the '07 manual, I come across a section called "Power Door Trim Switch Inhibit". Never heard of that one before so I read on. Basically it's a setting that allows the power door lock switches to be disabled whenever the anti-theft system is armed. My guess is that it prevents someone from sticking a coat hanger between the glass and rubber trim and hitting the unlock button to get into the car. It then takes you through the set up procedure to activate it or unactivate it. Problem is, the manual doesn't tell you which way it comes from the factory. When I got home, I left the windows down and locked the car with the FOB. I then reached in and hit the unlock button on the door and sure enough, the doors unlocked. Mine was therefore disabled from the factory. I went through the setup and tried it again and this time, the doors did not unlock when hitting the unlock button on the door.

Bottom line, if you're interested in having this feature active, do the simple test I did and if it's not active, follow the simple instructions to activate it.

Hope that helps.

I assume you do not have the factory alarm? When I reach in through the window after locking the car with the fob the alarm goes off. (never tried the unlock button though)

if you just reach in far enough to hit the unlock button a lot of times the alarm won't go off.

Also, the alarm system takes 20 seconds to arm. So If he locked it and immediatley reached in, the ultrasonic sensors wouldn't have been active yet.

Also, I believe the 05 manual says that the inhibit feature is disabled at the factory. Don't know about 06 or 07, but it would appear to be the same.

I haven't gone out and tried it yet, but I assume you can still use the handle to open the door? Say..... you have it enabled, and you leave someone in the car, but lock it for their safety... (I don't have any children, but say I left my wife in the car for a minute and locked the doors behind me) .... could she get out using the handle if she needed to? If not, then I would say that's exactly why they disabled it from the factory.

Handle always works.

It is only the power lock button that can be disabled.

Why would you set the alarm with your wife in the car?

Oh, you wanted details? It's on page 66, Deactivating/activating the power door trim switch inhibit feature. Here is the .pdf file. Ok, the site keeps failing the upload of the .pdf, so here is a .doc file of that section.

In case she tried to get away from me. I figure it's only healthy for our relationship if I take her out of the cellar every once in a while so she can get some fresh air. She hasn't seen the sun in probably 15 years, so I only take her out after sunset.

that scenario was hypothetical... I was just thinkin' that it would be stupid to allow the people you have locked in the trunk a pull string to get out when the people you lock in the actual space designated for occupants wouldn't be able to get out... you know... in case of fire.

Mine is the factory active anti-theft. The reason the motion detector did not set the alarm off when I stuck my hand in is because the convertible top was down. On 'verts, the top has to be up for the inside motion detector to be active.

Then just use that dastardly coat hanger to pull the door handle open. Case closed.
