played around with the 2008 oem HID's today...
Light performance is about the same, lots more glare then the 08's setup for other drivers. The factory hids light the road a bit further out, the 'blue' 6000k aftermarket ones I have seem a bit better at lighting the reflective tape and signs. Both put the stock halogens to shame.
If the factory HIDs are better than the halogens and the color isn't shifted towards the blue, I may be interested. I've always liked Ford's lighting on their trucks. The 9004s on my '88 Bronco and the 9007s on my '96 throw out a lot of light. Back when the craze was for blue shift to mimic HIDs, I tried a few super whites in my trucks with disappointing results. I went back to factory specs. I'll have to take a trip down to my local dealer when he gets some '08s in. Low beams on the Mustang aren't bad and the high beams are great but I very rarely have an opportunity to use the highs.
My problem at night is that I see too well. It has to do with the plastic lenses in my eyes due to cateract surgery about 9 years ago. They let in a lot more light but the down side is that I have to wear sun glasses during the day even in cloudy conditions. Anyone having to be outside a lot during the day should take care and wear some sort of UV protection for their eyes.

The lights themselves are actually pretty cool, and they work well. I was one of the early purchasers of these lighting systems and paid FULL freight for them ($1400!)
The problem is that the reflective material inside the fixture burns up after time. There are other threads about burned Saleen HID lights with pix.
Compounding the problem is Saleen's refusal to do anything about the issue. I am sure most of us would be happy with light fixture replacement with something that isn't so prone to burn - hell, I'd even do the work myself. Saleen however ignores our inquiries and rebuffs any request for replacement, citing "the warranty has expired".
I would understand that argument if there had not been what appears to be a defect in either design or manufacturing on a larger than "ordinary" scale.
Official style: don't hold your breath waiting for a remedy.
