Placed My Gt Vert Order - Thanks For The Help

When I became more serious about buying a Mustang GT convertible, I began to read this forum as well as a couple of others. It has been a tremendous experience, and has allowed me to learn way more about the vehicle (good & bad) that I ever got from the Ford dealers I went to.

Anyway, I finally pulled the trigger last night. My wife and twin girls (age 12) went along and we made a family project out of it. For us, the car will be a family summer vehicle.

My color choices are really black exterior with red interior. However, I want to end up with something more GT500-like. Thus, I ordered the car triple black, and when it’s delivered I will add Katskin black/red leather. I have this set up with an installer that Katskin has referred to me. Unfortunately I had to order the vehicle with leather seats to begin with simply to get heated seats (Comfort Group). [And as someone else has pointed out, the new heated seats time out after 10 minutes.]

When it delivered, done and trimmed out, I will post some photos.

So here it is, and THANKS MUCH for all the help and advice everyone has provided.

I’ll add some other ordering comments at the end.

Delivery. The dealer is high-volume and they are confident that I will have the vehicle in early August. We’ll see.

Shaker 1000. I posted separately about this. Basically, I investigated it after reading the forums. The incremental quality over the Shaker 500 is negligible. It just makes no sense to purchase. I didn’t.

GT Appearance Package. I could not order the package (hood scoop, engine cover & exhaust tips) without the hood scoop. So I ordered the tips separately although they will be dealer installed (bolt-on), and I intend to add the engine cover upon delivery. I am looking for a clean look (spoiler delete), and just could not appreciate the new hood scoop for 2007.

Cloth Top. I went back and forth on this one. Ultimately I went vinyl for the ease of maintenance. The car will be a summer driver, not a garage queen.

Final. Other than the interior trim and engine cover, I intend to toss in a short-throw shifter when I get it and it will be done. If anyone has taken a hard look at Steeda v. Hurst v. Saleen on the shifter issue, I’d appreciate a post or an email.

This is my first experience with Ford and its dealer network, and frankly I was not impressed. They seem to know very little about the vehicle, particularly 2007 changes and options. Someone on one of the forums recommended a hobbyist-Ford salesman, but instead I stuck with a salesman who is a friend-of-a-friend. His knowledge was consistent with a number of other Ford salesmen I spoke with, visiting different dealers.

So thanks again. If I can return the favor, simply let me know.

Nice ride. You will not be disappointed. Yes the unknowledgable salesperson thing is a joke. Hopefully Ford will wake up and do something about this before Toyota takes over what is left of the domestic market.

Salesmen

Webba - that's right. I could go on forever about domestic car salesmen.

You go into a high end foreign dealer, and they know their car inside / out and more importantly, they know most (if not all) things about their competition.

You go into a GM-Ford-Chrysler dealer, and it's a throw back to 1950. When I checked out one GT vert the sales guy kept circling my family barking out "sure will look good in your driveway" every 2 minutes. He did not even attempt to point out any of the GT's features. Unfortunately for him, my driveway has nothing to do with my reasons for buying a $30K plus vehicle.

What the big 3 fail to understand is that while not perfect, most of their vehicles range from good to excellent. Where they lose it is on the front line with the sales people. It doesn't matter how good a product is, if the man / woman you're dealing with is a smuck, you're not buying it. At least that's how I think.

Heated Seats???

You are going to have a really nice car. That said ,if it's going to be a summer ride why not save the money on heated seats to pay for the Katskins?
