The wear indicator is in the main treads, don't see one visible in that picture.
But your edge wear does look a little uneven. Could be the pic.

I have pointed out where the wear indicators are. You can barely see them because the tread depth is so low. Also look at the center tread of the tire. It is almost bald.

That's not a wear indicator.

Then what is it? According to Pirelli, that is the location of the wear indicator on these tires.

That is a manufacturing remnant, like those little rubber "pins" that stick out of the sides of the tire. If you have a Pirelli document on the web you can point to, please do.

yes those arent wear indicators... And I do believe the original intent of my post was to get you guys to give me an opinion on what happened. My tires are not bald and that image has thrown many of you off. THey have miles on them yes.. but that IS NOT the wear indicator it is located in the center of the tire and i still have a bit to go before that. I do however, appreciate your thoughts on this .... just dont want to get into a "where are the wear indicators" battle

as far as i heard and have been told tires and wheels are not covered under warranty.........

The place I purchased mine from threw in a 5/50 hazard warranty on the tires and the wheels. And it will transfer to new tires when I have them replaced due to normal wear.

sometimes when a wheel is not properly balanced due to vibration pieces of rubber can break away.
May that was what happened in this instance, then again you would likely notice a "shimmy" in the steering wheel.

Lets not argue, If people want to be idiots and have tire problems then I say let them. Firestone and Explorers never had problems, just the owners that neglected their tires and did not know how to handle a blow out.
To me that looks to be a blister due to excessive heat. And I would be looking for some new rear rubber quite soon.

I think you need to be careful who you refer to as an idiot. Excessive heat on that part of the tread my @## .. The rest of the tire/tires look good.. Something stabbed my tread and jerked part of it off... End of story.. The tire guys both agreed it was something on the road. Also both agreed that my tires are not bald and still have decent tread on them... The wear on my tires on the outside edge is mostly because i ran a lower tire pressure for an amount of time testing traction differences. I never blamed the hole on a defect.. I posed the question to see if anyone else had seen anything like this on a tire...but analyzing it in person its easy to see its road damage.

I noticed something interesting in one of the posts in this thread. I see you are getting a new trans. Does the fact that you need a new trans have anything to do with the way this tire looks????

Well FYI.. in that same post it states parts ordered for two TSB's .. One being the strut (fixed).. and the other being the grindy growly noise for the tr3650. So unfortunately for you there is no link. But on that subject.. I got my struts fixed but they ordered the parts for an 03 mustang tranny.??! How can you mistake the two?

Honestly, I could envision a Ford dealer ordering Chevy parts. Some of them are soooo bad, they just shock you with the stupidity.
Then again, some are really really good. Thing is, how do you know out of the approximate 5,000 dealerships which are good and which aren't.

Back to the original posting. Georg did the dealer pro rate the tire based on amount of tread left and put on a new one? Just curious in case I run over something and need to go through the same thing with the dealer. I just checked mine @ 10,000 miles and I still have 9/32 rubber left. I believe the wear indicators show at about 2/32. These tires are wearing good on mine so far.

No they didnt pro rate it. I got them to knock 25 dollars off of the retail price they were going to charge me. But thats was mostly because it took them 3 days to get it in. I may have gotten the pro-rating by with the real dealer I bought it from but ... I bought my car in Fla. and drove it back to VA. So I just dont think they were goign to bend too far over backwards for me.

Professional opinion here.(like that matters!)
Tires are not worn, about 7 32nds would be my guess. Those are not wear indicators that were pointed out. As someone mentioned wear indicators go across the tread, and can usually be seen in the 4 lateral grooves.
Also wear indicator locations are generally marked with a small arrow or dot of some sort on the sidewall/shoulder area to give you an idea of where to look on the tires tread. Most tires have 5 or 6 wear indicator bars.
The rip is defintly considered a road hazard and not a defect on the tire.
