Pinion bearing leak after gear install

Hey guys,
Recently had a set of Ford racing 3.73 gears and a Ford racing posi unit installed on my 05 GT. Had the shop put in new seals and bearings, had the car back for less than a month and while under the car today for an oil change noticed a leak at the pinion bearing. Took it to the shop and they're saying that it is a faulty seal and that since I got the parts from another shop they won't cover the repair. Just wondering what you guys think, did they screw up the install? They're saying its a 2 and a half hour job to replace the pinion seal does that sound right?

2 and a half hours is about right but considering they isntalled it, no matter if the part is from another shop or whatever, they should still cover it cause it was most likely mistake on the install. If you have to play hard ball with them let them know that you will get BAR involved and i am sure they will change their minds if not call BAR and they will help you out

Most places I know of won't warranty a part provided by the customer no matter where they got it. Shops make a little on the parts themselves and that helps them offset losses when parts they obtain for the job fail .... as even when the parts supplier provides a replacement part to them, seldom is the labor to replace it paid for by the parts house.

There are 3 places the pinion seal can leak from: the seal itself; the outer part of the seal pressed into the diff housing; leakage may also come from the splines of the pinion shaft up through to the flange nut and washer area.

It might be a good idea to wash the whole oily area off and then let the vehicle sit overnight or a short ride and look for fresh leaks from the specific areas. If the shop didn't use a sealant on the splines before installing the flange, washer and nut I would say it's their poor install, not the seal. Same goes for leaks from outer ring of seal to the diff housing.
