I have an 05 with Shaker 1000 and I'm looking at installing the PIE aux adaptor and running an 1/8 inch female plug to the inside of my center console, similar to the 07 set up. Are the issues with the early PIE units resolved? Where should I splice, fuse box or ciagrette lighter?

I did that with my 06 over a year ago, no PIE issues at all since then, works great with the Sirius or ipod plugged in, one of the best mods I have done as far as everyday enjoyment...radio sux in Seattle so now I have choices while I endure the commute.
I hooked it up to an aux fuse in the fuse box, along with my comp/temp mirror...on and off with the ignition, cant get any better!

 

if you get one with the latest software, then it will work fine. connect it the way they tell you to with constant power, otherwise you will have to push AUX each time you start lately.
