Loading a tune on the car shuts the 02 sensors off automatically so no cash is needed to weld anything back in blah blah blah. They run a check on the OBDII port and that is all. Inspections may be a different story. I haven't lived in an inspection state for about 10 years. They may take a look under the engine and if so, you're hosed. Once they see no spot for cats then you will fail. Worst case is you go out and purchase hollow tubes where the cats "should" be or temporarily weld in a stock y to h pipe complete with cats. It was easier for me to punch my cats out because after some reading I found that the stock exhaust for the s197's can handle plenty more HP than what comes factory stock. The factory exhaust also maintains ideal back pressure as opposed to aftermarket exhaust. But I'm sure my buddy Trent will pipe in and tell me otherwise. *rolls out carpet for boneking*

HERE YE! HERE YE! I would like to thank petey for the velvet carpet, nice touch. but! (Drumroll).... Backpressure is something you want as close to nill of! I know I know. "But that guy on that one website says that without backpressure the flux capacitor can't spool at max levels!"... *idiot*.. research it. All the backpressure talk/myth is just that. Why do you think dragsters run open headers? Why don't they have xpipes with special mufflers to keep the "backpressure"??? Anyone have proof of backpressure giving more power to a car vs open headers? Anyone?? Petey??? Didn't think so...

Here Ye Here Ye? That's NOT Texas.
Hay y'all Hay Y'all!
Get it right man. back pressure will help an underpowered motor with a little more low end torque and with less pressure will help out on high end. Just boost it and leave the headers open.

Gotta get a dyno read out before and after exhaust replacement. My fox really didn't get any faster after header install but I could definitely feel a power range difference. Lost low end but pulled better at higher RPMs. I'm sure someone has dyno'd before and after exhaust here to show the torque curve shift.

So. What your saying is its a tradeoff. So relitivly speaking your car would run the same times in general. But would accelerate differently?

Not exactly. You will gain horsepower with unrestricted exhaust and since you are racing at higher rpm's than normal driving, power will be higher and times will be better. But there is very minimal gain on low end if any. My car dynos almost a flat line from 2500-6500 so less restriction on mine is best, but it's boosted.

So your saying you don't want backpressure right?

Not for my car. But maybe so in a daily driver.
I'm not gonna say that you are right.
