Thumbs up

Hmm, Can't edit titles...(Break In)

O.K., so my car will be here (Germany) in about two weeks. I have the option of having her delivered to my Air Force base or I can go get her at the port 5 hours away. Since it's going to take an additional 2 weeks for them to bring her 5 hours (go figure), I'm thinking I'm going to go get her.

O.K., on to the question. I am familiar with the breaking in per the manual and what everyone has posted. Thing is that most of you broke her in within city limits and some highway use where the speed limit is 75mph max. My 5 hour drive home will be all autobahn where the speed limit is 80mph in metro areas and no speed limit most of the way (must drive based on the conditions). I will also drive autobahns to go to work everyday. So, aside from varying the RPMs during the trip, what's your suggestion on the max speed for the first 5 hours she gets driven? Should I keep her under 120, 100, 90, etc? Or vary the RPMs and drive her like I stole her? By the way, how the heck do you vary RPMs at 145?

p.s., Rented an Audi last summer and was running 155-160mph for about 60 minutes straight at night on the autobahn. Awesome ride...
Also, it's not like there's no speed limit on the autobahns, but that's another discussion.

Most new cars don't have to broken in. I have to admit I didn't break mine in at all, no problems at all. I asked the dealer tech and everything and they said I didn't need to. I don't know though he could be wrong. My car seems as fast as it should be, I mean I did beat an M3

Vary the RPMs and drive it like you stole it. I am jealous. I drove mine like a grandma for about an hour then said screw it and the beating began.

I've never "broke in a car" really. I do vary the RPM's but drive them like I stole them right off the lot. My thoughts are its warrantied for 36K miles... and I usually end up w/ the extended service plan and even tho I love my Mustangs... I have to say the ESP has been worth its money every time I've bought it. I mean with the last 2 Stangs the ESP has well paid for itself a couple times over in the amount of repairs its covered.

I would definitely not bypass that opportunity! Drive it like you stole it and take a camera with you. You can make stop offs and get some pics of your new baby all over Germany.

If I get stationed in Germany again you can bet that is what I will do!

Start out easy. Make sure you always warm it up before you rev it up. Keep an eye on the oil pressure & temp. As you get used to it give it a little more. Stay off of the rev limiter. I'd worry the most about breaking in the brakes! It will probably be the best 3 hours of your life!

warm it up well. then drive it like you stole it for about 40 kms if possible using all of the low gears (fast speed up, fast slow down)....then jump on the highway and try and vary the RPMs as much as possible.

on my trip home from my dealer (1.5 hours away), after breaking it in on some side roads, i took it home on the highway (speed limits unfortunately) and made sure to run it from 3rd to 5th...people must have thought I was drunk with all of my gas-brake-gas-brake...

Warm it up, then pedal to the metal. I wouldn't hit the rev. limiter or red line for a bit, but certainly open it up!

I picked up my Porsche in Germany a couple of years ago, and with only 35 miles on the clock, I had it up to 170 mph on the autobahn, and I still could have pushed a bit more.

You GO!!!

I remember doing burnouts the second day just to see how long I could leave a patch of rubber!
