Sorry, I'm not catching your meaning here.
More juice than the manual? If you are saying the auto is more powerful/faster than the manual, where are you deriving this from?
It is NOT low... What is "it"?
which stinks more juice than the MANUAL

Autos suk more juice to turn the wheels than manuals. (more parasitic loss)
Hence the 'lower' auto RWHP numbers.
They are normal, not 'low/underpowered'

If this is the case then that means 5 speed might be in the 280rwhp and 297rwtq range. 280rwhp is pretty close to the 275rwhp from the steeda run.

The real test in the track. I have a feeling it'll still lose there as well (but by a smaller proportion than it loses in a straight line). Thai-Tang said the GT was only 0.5 sec behind an M3 on the road course. The Z handles at least as well as the M3 but has a power disadvantage to both the 05 and M3. Gotta wait till all the tests are out to confirm this.
Either way at a stoplight, the G35, 350z and LT1's will be blown away and the GTO will be edged out and the LS1 will be given a run for their money.

Good Point Dan. The GT is handicapped by its tires. 235/55/17 All season tires aren't good for handling and/or road racing. A nice lightweight rim with 285mm max performance tires, such as Kumho MX's, would really wake up the cars handling. The M3 and 350Z come with sticky summer only tires from the factory. I am really excited to read how well the car handles.

Dump the clutch at half-throttle, and the Mustang GT paints two beautiful, unbroken black stripes-even with the traction control on.

I think they drove two cars (manual and auto) but were only able to instrumented performance data on the auto (at least that what's I got reading between the lines).

"Who cares about things fitting right and working reliably? WE'VE GOT POWER!"
What amazes me is that they're comparing a GT to a 350Z. They're different car classes and have about a $10,000 difference between them. I mean, they both have two doors and are RWD, but that's really where the similarity ends. If anything, compare it to a GTO or something. At least that has a backseat.

Why did MT say this when they tested an automatic? Is it just poetic license?

I"m heading to the store after supper and grab a copy of MT!!! I'll post scans if no one else does.

Exactly.
The torque curve falls by only 60 lb-ft over a 2000rpm range, approximately. This plot they did starts near the torque PEAK. A torque curve that only loses about 20% of it's punch in the final 2000rpm of the available tach? Not bad for a factory motor.

Yes, that was the first think I'm celebrating, however Nissan is increasing the HP to 300 for the Track model in 2005, but it will cost $34k, and even with 300hp I don't think the Z will be able to pull this numbers with just 13hp increase.

All I have to say is that I am in shock, after reading those Motor Trend numbers!!
I thought Ford was going to fumble the ball, but they scored a Touchdown instead!!
I was hoping the Manual 5 speed would reach those numbers, but to have an Automatic run those numbers is just insane!
5.1 0-60 with an Automatic, is faster then my friends new GTO! And the GT has 50 less HP compared to the GTO too! All I can say is WOW!
Can't wait to see other test!

The 350z won't even come close in the quarter or 0-60.

Nope.....05 will still own in the quarter, but the track will be closer. I have no idea what the gap will be.

It just means that Ford is continuing to offer value in the Mustang, which has been there for a long time. Even during the Fbody wars of the 80's and 90's, the one thing the Mustang always had going for it was that is was cheaper than the competition.
