No sound for FM, but AM ok?

Hi all,

Hoping someone can point me in the right direction to figure what's wrong with my radio. 06 GT with the factory Shaker 500 radio.
Radio powers on and display is ok, but very, very low sound (to low to hear), with volume turned to max. Weird part is the sound is only out for FM, volume is fine when radio is tuned to AM stations.
Any ideas where to look?

Thx

Yes... go cruising the web and look for a new radio/head unit, because that one's done. I'm sure a good Shaker 500 head unit's available somewhere. Otherwise, you're lookin' at a replacement brand, and then you'll also need the mounting and wiring stuff for that, and the door speaker amps will need figurin' out...

The problem is the FM tuner is done. And it's really not gonna be worth chasing it down past that point. If you get sound for AM (and I assume the CDs/MP3s) then yeah, just need to replace the head unit.

It'd be a different story if it were all sound, maybe the volume **** is unhappy, or possibly an amp circuit that might can be replaced, but... no this sounds like a baseline failure that sidelines the radio pending replacement board/entire unit to fix it.

Sorry. It be like that sometimes.

Yeah, I have no issue putting in a new radio if that's the problem.
Didn't know if the system had external amps or all the power comes from the radio.

The power comes from the radio for the 6x8's in the doors and rear shelf, the door subs have their own amp each in the driver's side footwell.

Only other thing I could think of it being side from the craptastic Skipper 500 is maybe an antenna issue but that might be reaching a little bit.

That's a good point on the antenna, actually. But usually the FM's strong and the AM is no good. Source: I have a stubby antenna because that long whip OEM one is annoying to me, and the AM reception is just gone. Well, not gone, but definitely not worth a darn.

Thing to me is the AM is good, the FM isn't, which is backwards. That indicates the FM tuner/preamp is not happy. It's also why I wanna know if the CD/MP3 is working right or not.

/I find it odd that everyone... well plenty of yas... but me has skipping problems with the Shaker 500. Mine's never done that to speak of. Very occasionally, and it's usually my fault, drivin' on a wayy rough road and then driving like a mad man too. Hehe. But I find it to be quite a good radio, honestly... but then I just don't mind what it is and don't wanna really swap it out for anything. Done that before, OEM's fine for me, thanks.
//Until it breaks, of course, then game on

Thx for all the replies, it was radio.
I put in a Boss BE7ACP-C and all is well.
So nice to have Apple Car play and back-up camera.
Hopefully this lasts as long as the factory radio did.
