Where's Dan?
depending on how much this S/E is, it might wind up in my driveway...
hopefully the 18's will end up on this car at least.

Dano,
Hate to say this, but if there is a mach 1 in the works, the '66 Galaxie will be for sale.
I am gonna have to come up with a new screen name

Hey didnt he say they were trying to get the cobra done earlier than 2007,I was reading and old MMFF and we were supposed to got our new stang in 2004, so maybe the Cobra might get here earlier if the demand is there.

The current Mach 1 has a cobra engine minus supercharger so if the new cobra is a supercharged 5.4 then maybe a new Mach1 will be a 5.4 minus supercharger.

1-2 months after the release of the GT will be the SE already?

We'd just SEE it two months after the GT's release.
The thing is, if its a vert SE also, the vert would have to be released at SEMA, or .... both at NAIAS in Jan.

As much as I really think it'll still be the 4.6L, a 5.4L would be my preference hands down!! Higher displacement = torque = sound =

Steve,
I know ya love that car but if it comes down to it I think you'd like the new SE even more. Classics are great but they are a cash pit.
I'm in the same boat. It'll be hard to swing but if its offered, I'd have to buy it. I figure, I'd likely be saving money on the rims/tires since it'll likely come with 18's as well as performance upgrades since it'll already have more power. Plus, my PGT should get me a couple grand. I can't see it being as expensive as the current Cobra. Hopefully not much more than the current Mach 1.
![Dunno](https://themustangsource.com/forums/images/smilies/dunno.gif)
You know me, I am more than happy with a GT but an SE would make me the happiest guy alive.
I don't want to get too excited incase we have a "Chicago" incident but I can't help but get butterflies in my stomach thinking about it.
COME'ON FORD!! Don't let us down.

I can't believe Ford would show all their cards at once. That'll hurt GT sales. Also you want to bolster up the line-up each year making it better than the last.
They can't do that giving all their models away 2005. Likely they'll spread it out new GT 2005, Mach 1 2006, Cobra 2007. That makes the most sense from a business aspect.
However Ford making a 2005 Mach 1 would be the tastiest plate of crow I'll ever eat.

I dont think mach 1 sales would hurt GT sales really because they are limited production models, and some people are not willing to pay the extra cash to go mach or cobra it all about what someone will pay for the car. The price difference between a mach 1 and a Gt is about that the same as a Cobra and GT before it became supercharged. a new mach 1 will be around 30,000 if go buy the way they priced now.

A mach1/special edition is needed to be in the lineup every year. There will be too much of a HP and price gap between the GT and SVT models.
Just thought of another cool S/E idea.... if Ford is going to drop the Cobra name for Shelby on the SVT, how about naming the S/E a CobraJet like in 1968? The lines are there, throw those 18's on, maybe a ducktail spoiler, a small, tasteful hoodscoop, and C-Stripes coupled with a bit more power. I don't know if they would go this route, because it could tarnish/dilute the Cobra name.

The way I look at it (and ford)
the Mustang GT is now a Mach1 performing car (whether just above/same/below...) and with the Cobra not around yet...there IS no gap to fill yet.....
Remember it was said they are taking the BMW approach.
SLOWLY bring out new models over time, to prolong the hype/sales![Big Grin](https://themustangsource.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
I don't want to show the hand all at once.
Ford knows that if we buy a GT now, there is a stepup in the future, say 3 or 4 years in.
Guy who has GT now, wants either the newer GT (with different wheels etc) or a newer model (mach1ish)

We have the 300hp GT which will be about Mach 1 power. This will more than satisfy almost everyone IMO.
Then we have the promised Cobra with close to 450-500hp. Even if it isn't here till 2006 as an 07, people know its coming. But its also coming at a price $$$.
Now you have the GTO, the upcoming Charger, the old LS1's etc. etc.... with more power than the GT.
I think there are a lot of mustang fans (and possible mustang fans) who are really looking for a 350-375hp car. Old mustang fans just accepted that they didn't have an offering to compete with the LS1's from GM. I think that for the new generation they won't be so forgiving. They want something a bit faster than GM's fastest outgoing models.
The biggest reason why I think there is still a gap is the fact that with a 300hp GT you aren't going to convert as many GM loyalists as you could with a 350hp car.
People are reluctant to go from a 345hp Firebird Trans-AM R/A to a 300hp GT. Ain't happening.
Anyway, I think there IS a gap. I know because I feel like I'm in it.

Until someone actually knows what kind of performance the GT has we are all guessing, if it does make power like the current mach1, job well done, then everything else if just gravy.
#38
I think the answer might be to make the GT or the Mach1 have a special order to have the 5.4. Then you could call it a Cobra Jet, just like in the late 60's early 70's. Remember you could get a Mach1 with a 2 barrel Cleveland, a 4 barrel Cleveland, or the 428 which made it a Cobra Jet. That way the car would satisfy a broader market. You could still do a SVT with the high end blown motor and IRS.
It makes sense to give the people what they want now, if you aren't an absolute Ford junkie you aren't going to wait 2 years for a car like I have to do for the new Cobra. :bang:

We do not know that or anything else for that matter unless Ford has released it at this point. All we know there will be a V6 and GT V8 in late Sept or early Oct. The convt be be avail around spring time. The Cobra will be sometime in '06 as '07 model.
That's it! That's all we know! Anything that anyone saids "well I know someone" or "I work at someplace" or "I saw something" is not based in fact at this point. I will be very happy if there is a SE sometime next year but I or we do not know that will happen regardless of what is posted.
Please let us NOT have another Chicago incident come early Nov. Cool heads everyone. I believe the gt version will be a very nice car for most.
