New to Stangs

Just turned 20 and never had a car before. I want my first car to be a GT500. I want that Monster sound coming from the exhaust and a supercharged engine in it. But my knowledge really on extra parts is quite there yet. But any suggestions for parts to add when I do get my stang ? How much am I looking to spend to get it to sound Monsterous lol ? Please feel free to add any parts that you feel will help the performance of the car as it gives me knowledge also so in the future I will know. Thanks guys !

Sorry guys just a little excited to get my stang !

20 year old, first time driver, and in a GT500?

I hope your parents are rich enough to afford the insurance as well. This sounds more like a mortgage payment rather than a car/insurance payment.

When you come down to earth, you might want to consider something a bit more reasonable.

I would get an 03-04 cobra as a first ride... Great sound, supercharged and cheaper

Great car still too

Yea I've thought about that. Ill check that out do my research on 03-04 cobra see how much they are and where I can find them.

But as far as parts go, exhaust, I want a supercharger, but as fast as parts go for the stang to make it run smoother, sound louder and add some more HP. What should I add to it ?

Well to be honest I don't know what kind of sound you want.

I mean that car comes with 4 cats and I know you can just remove the back two and have it sound great. Single blade throttle body for the engine would be good too.

Honestly I don't own one personally so I would research popular mods for that car if your that interested. But take care of those cars because they are rare thing in my opinion.

We need to know what car you are getting before we make parts recommendations . You could get off road x pipes, axel backs, and headers. You would have the loudest car on the block. Won't give you that much power though. But being a first time driver in a cobra. You won't need power.

jonathan517, sorry to rain on your thought process but that is too much car for a first car. Get the feel for a Mustang first. You can certainly get performance and sound out of a GT, plus a GT will be much less expensive to buy and to insure. After some time behind the wheel, hopefully you will have saved up more $$ and you'll be more prepared for the GT500 if you still desire it.

The '03 and '04 Cobras are just as 'beastly' with all that power to the rear wheels. They are also expensive, speaking about the good 'non-abused' ones. Really depends on your personal tastes on the body styles.
If you like the '05 and up style you can get clean '05 -'07 GT's for decent prices. Even better pricing if you like the '04 and earlier body style.
Have fun with your search when the time comes.

jonathan517,

You sound like my son, he want's more than his pocket can afford. I don't know what your situation is but don't waste your money on mods for a Cobra if that's what you end up getting. Save the money to pay for speeding tickets and the insurance which will be through the roof. I'm old enough to be your father, (my kids 21) and I'm responsible but I'm having a tough time not being a hooligan and losing my license.

Whatever Mustang you get will have plenty of power so if you want the deep sound, just get muffler deletes and trust me you'll **** the neighbors off.

What about a Shelby GT or a bullet...

That doesn't sound bad for a first Mustang. They hold value better and look cool

Something to look into but get what you want to get. Llike other people are saying just budget it out to see what you can afford with it plus insurance and regular maintenance.

Modding gets expensive too and it's hard not to modd with a mustang because you can do so much with them. But at least with those 2 models they come with the factory cold air intake and better gear ratios. At that point just get the car tuned and you got a fun car to ride around in.

Honestly... buy what you can afford, and be sensible / careful.

Don't "not" buy a GT500 because you think it's too much car. "Not" buy a GT500 because it's too expensive, and may or may not suit your needs right now.

As for what to buy, I'd say it really depends on what your preference for body style is. If you like the 05-09's, then pick up a used GT, and slap a superchager on it once you get a bit more experienced (about a $5k job, IIRC). If you like the 03-04 body style, find a Cobra. Personally, I think the 05 platform is a much better car all around, but to each his own.

Speaking from experience on the 2005 platform, if you want sound and HP, long tube headers is your answer. Match it up with a decent axle-back exhaust (lots of range in that department), and people will hear you from blocks away. That'll run you in the range of $2k installed. If you want a cheaper avenue, just pick up a set of axle-backs ($3-400) and install them yourself (fairly easy).

That being said, the first thing I'd do, if I were you, is drive the car for a little bit. Figure out what you like and don't like about it, figure out what you want and what you don't want. The modifications you put into the car will never be fully reflected in it's future resale value, so the first thing to do would be to decide that you absolutely love the car.
