New Stang or Used + forged internals?

I was thinking about something and I wanted some opinions. I should be pulling the trigger on another Stang soon, and as tempting as it is to get a brand new one again, I thought maybe I could get a used one instead and use the money I would save towards some forged internals. I have a Whipple blower waiting in the wings to go right on it and the added peace of mind from a built block would be nice. Also, I could turn up the whick and get some more ponies out of it safely. Let's say I get a car with ~30k miles and have forged internals installed. Is it like having a brand new motor?

I've seen the Livernois Rotating Assemblies for 2K+. I know it's the labor that is most costly. What is the average install cost for forged guts?

Opinions?

Good question, I'd like to know as well. Nothing like forged guts to take on the world. Thinking about some putting in some OT for forged internals myself.

I would go with the used one plus the forged internals. If you get an 08 the only thing different you will get is a radio with an mp3 input and some cup holders that light up. You would have a lot more fun with the whipple and the forged internals!

Why are you getting a new car?

The car you see in my avatar was totalled last December in a bad accident. I was able to salvage the Whipple blower.

Go with a used '06 or '07, it'll cost less initially so that you won't be too worried about spending too much on mods for the car.

Adam will be able to tell you best. Don't be surprised to be hovering into the 10k neighborhood for a properly built motor. There's more to it than just buying a "kit" and having it installed.

Let us all know what he says

Totally agree with Sixty-six...

If you go with a reputable builder or shop, it should be between $7-8K to remove the engine, breakdown, re-machine, prep, rebuild (with forged parts), and then reinstall and test. There's a lot involved in the process, and remember, all the gaskets, bolts, and fluids have to be replaced. Then you need to have it dyno tuned.

Best to get the supercharger done at the same time since the engine will be broken down and you can install other custom parts like bigger fuel lines.

A used Stang is very risky business unless you know the history. a lot of these cars are abused in many ways and unless you are prepared, I would advise avoiding a used Mustang and go for new.

Disclaimer: I know nothing, just speculating for debate/information.

Wouldn't everything that could possibly be worn and in bad condition from abuse be replaced or easily identified & replaced while the engine is disassembled? Is a rebuilt engine literally "as good as new," or does something about the block itself slowly deteriorate with time/abuse?

I ask because I eventually would like to go the forged internals + forced induction route in a few years and 40-60k miles later. I abuse my car. Will the long term reliability of my engine be affected by my current driving habits, after being rebuilt?

well, I am aware that a fully built motor can run about 7-8K. I am factoring that into my costs. I can buy a slighty used GT between 18-22K. If I were to buy brand new, I'm probably looking at close to 30K out the door. So, I can have a slightly used car with forged internals and Whipple or a brand new one with stock internals and a Whipple for about the some money.

I would get used.
It is virtually the same car, just cheaper. And, since you will be putting a blower on it, warranty won't be an issue, so I can't see any reason to buy new.

Colors and options might be one reason, but if you are patient enough, you should be able to find what you want used anyway.

++1 if your doing the whipple immediately go used who cares about the warranty and then you can do forged. This is definately your best bet.
