be careful on the t-bird purchase, when you are ready let me know. they have had anywhere from 3,000 to 6,000 in dealer cash (un disclosed to the public) on these over the last 12 months. that means at some points in the year paying invoice might be $6,000 to much.
Here's an idea, buy both from Karpro, he will sell them for $200 below invoice. [/b][/quote]
And pocket $5,800 on the t-bird

definitely do your homework on-line and via phone.

Here's something to keep in mind if you're looking to by a new t-bird. The Contra Costa Times (norcal) has a dealer (sorry, I forget which) in the bay area advertising '04 T-Birds for $11.5k off MSRP. Look around, you may even be able to beat that. Check out newspapers around the country or eBay, there's always deals to be had if you do your background work...

The way I go about buying cars is to completely avoid the salesfloor.
I've read that in a couple of different places since I started my research a month or so back. I'm glad to hear it actually works. Thanks for sharing the practicle experience!

Just one more post. A quick general thanks to everyone for all of their input. I feel like I'm in a much better position now in terms of research, strategy and negotiation.

If you "order" the T-Bird the dealer is not going to give you as good a deal as one sitting on the lot. You may be best getting one off the lot.

Not always true. Yes we would love to sell on off the lot but if I were to call my factory rep today and request another t-bird allocation I could probably also negotiate a few extra Mustang allocations to go with it. Any dealer requesting extra t-birds is a hero in the factory's eyes. It may give your dealer some free goodwill with the factory.
