Name that Special Edition
tryin to stay with the mustang(horse) theme, iwas thinking that the mustang stallion name would be good for a mach 1 like mustang, and maybe a mustang derby for a special v6 edition. besides the cobra, i still think that "super stallion" was the coolest name for a mustang
I love the Mustang P51 idea for a special edition, if they did that I would wait! They could do a sweet commercial involving the P51 Fighter "Defending the country" and then the Mustang P51, "Defending American Muscle." Then show it smoking a group of riced out sports cars
I've read a half dozen stories about where the "Mustang" name came from... Half say it's from the P51, the other half say its from the horse. So I guess you could flip a coin.
My plates? P51STNG

Just kidding around.
I'd like to see a 'American Stallion' Edition, along the lines of the old Sprint mustangs, but a little more low-key. They could be available in Red, White or Blue, and have a simple R/W/B pinstripe, american flag pony in the grille, and american flag somewhere prominently on the sides, and some accents on the inside.

Mustang C1- Edition unlike most of your ideas this one would have no real hp gain it would have irs suspension from the jaguar or lincoln bin
it would have real wood in the dash and door panels and seats from aston martin a more luxsurios looking body it would be like a jaguar in a mustang body
Mustang R Stage 1- it would be a mustang that would compete with the evos and stis so it would have no air,no radio,no sound deadening material, slight hp increase,6 speed, spoiler delete, and some base wheels it would be basicly a sleeper like the Evo RS
Mustang R Stage 2- same as above with more horse power and better suspension

I want to throw my vote in for the P51 also.
Just a note on the Pegasus name mentioned earlier, Pegasus was used in the emblem on Pontiac Fiero's. Though there was a mid-engined Mustang built as a concept, I doubt we'd want the new Mustang associated with a production GM car.
Not a bad car, IMO (yes, I do own one), but not quite the same league as the Mustang.

Lee Iacocca said in a recent interview that it was never named for the plane, yet Jon Nijjar is widely credited for proposing the name Mustang since he was such a fan of the WWII plane.
Here's what I believe: the name was proposed because of the WWII plane, chosen because of the SMU Mustangs vs. Michigan football game, and Ford emphasized the horse to conjure images of freedom instead of violence.

If anyone recalls, back in 1965 or so, the Mustang was sold in Germany as the T5.
Mustang T5 might be a great SE name

A similar situation is in Canada for the last little while. Jeep cannot put the name "Wranger" on their jeeps because of some trademark infringement, so those editions are called TJ (some internal code)

I'm sure that wouldn't be a problem since Volvo is owned by Ford.
how about the mesteƱo? the spanish origin for the word mustang. It could be painted in a metallic gold/copper color with a beige interior to echo colors of the southwest deserts. DEFINITELY needs a ducktail, and perhaps instead of chrome horse, etc... a gold one.
