Motor Trend may have saved me $14,000
The newest MT magazine features a comparison between 3 tuner Mustangs: A Shelby, a Roush and a Saleen. Their review of the Roush Stage 2 is on their website, but I haven't been able to find the comparo there. You'll have to see it on a newsstand.
Long story short: All of the cars got to 60 in 5.1 seconds -- my GT with an SCT 93 Race tune can do that. None were more than .3 or .4 seconds faster than a bone-stock GT in any test. Yet, they all cost about $14,000-$15,000 more.
Either the dudes at Motor Trend don't know how to drive, or these tuner cars aren't all that -- certainly not for 15 large. Am I missing something?

Yes and no, depends on what you are in the market for. I think we all agree with the the right amount of money we all could build a better mustang, I just think tuners take Fords product and bring it to the next level, and for the price you pay for a limited edition mustang that will undoubtly have some collectors value, I think its a good deal. I have driven all three, all great cars, like the Shelby wheels the best, the Saleen interior and exterior, and the Roush just for the name. The one thing I didn't see in the article as the lateral G numbers, I know the Roush is like 1.05 or so, and the Saleen has something like 1.20, never saw anyhing on the Shelby but thats where most of the money is.

Saleen has something like 1.20
As far as over 1g, even the porsche GT3, Z06, viper only will pull a tad over a G. A GT3RS which is a barely street legal race car pulls around 1.3

Like a lot of others have said, you could build a better performing car yourself for a lot cheaper than these three, but you'll never have the resale value or collectable factor. You put $5K or whatever amount of mods into a Mustang yourself, and you'd be lucky if the mods add any value at all to your car - in fact the mods may turn off some potential buyers.
The Shelby or Roush will always be a desirable car. At some point, those cars would actually start to increase in value if you were able to keep the car in excellent condition for 20 years or so.

I'm having a hard enough time keeping ME in "good" condition for the next 20 years, let alone a car.

The 1.20 lateral G is data taken directly from the Shootout video of the Roush and the Saleen, and believe it or not the Saleen lateral G was 1.20. Who knows maybe its a typo or something in the data line. If not, lts find someone to ops check it !

Roush Stage I is all cosmetic mods to a stock GT.
Roush Stage II has some suspension mods too.
Either one is over-priced. In fact they have a hard time selling them and they have terrible resale value.
Stage III and 427R are supercharged but not impressive at all.
Roush is for people with no imagination.
