I like the car and I still want to get one but I'm disappointed by the 3 dealers I've visited so far. I'm not sure how they plan to sell any if they are outrageously marking them up,

What? No one has performed the standard "dealer duties" yet in the this thread???
That earns a
And that certainly gets a
And if that doesn't deserve multiple
- well, I just don't know what does!
"Are you here to look at the new Mustang? Its a much better luxury car than your BMW."
"Yes only 4 2005 Mustang GT's are being allocated to each dealer by Ford, so its very very limited and rare."

All special orders have a $5,000 markup because its so limited and is custom built by the factory."
- well, I just don't know what does!

I asked the salesman the same thing, what kind of moron do you expect to buy this car without driving it first?

Several of use have ordered the new stang without seeing it in person. I have never sat in one but I do have a cheque in my hand for when my order shows up on the lot. Do I need to test drive it, heck no. It will be my 5th Mustang so why wouldn't I like it.....
One of the local dealers here was holding a red GT for an "Grand unveiling". Friday night. A customer came in and said" What will it take to buy this tonite" . By the end of the night the person walked out with his sales papers at $9000. over MSRP
So there it is.

j/k. some of these dealers definitely deserve it....
Hey Mav, what ever ended up happening with your original (*****) sales manager?
Actually Purple, I'm a very easy-going guy. But those fella show up every time there's a "special" dealer tale. And this one was definitely a keeper.
These smilies just crack me up every time I look at them.
And of course the "kick-to-the-ding-ding"
is powerful mojo borrowed from KevinB!

The markup is why I'm so not getting one yet. Well, that and my insurance check. Well, those and the fact that the Optional Automatic isn't optional yet on the V6. Well, all that, and the fact that I'd have to wait a few months to take delivery. Well, that all before and the fact that I need a car today, not a few months from now...
Ok, well, I guess the markup thing isn't making me wait... But it would be!
As long as impatient people will pay that, then the dealers will try it.
I remember when the Blackwoods were still semi new. They couldn't get anyone to buy them and they were putting 5-7 grand on top of them too! Amazingly, they advertised for just the Blackwood to try to move them, and the dealers STILL put that "adjustment" on them.
So buck up, y'all. It'll be wait long remembered. It will see the end of the markup and will soon see the end of your holding out. Hmm.... That reminds me of something...

You guys need to get on Southwest Air and fly to Maine! This evening I stopped in at a local dealer - they had the first 2005 in our area - a white GT with the red and charcoal leather. As I was ogling and checking all the angles and trying out the seats a salesman stopped to chat. I told him that I had a V6 Premium on order from a competing dealer and was just here to see the car in person since they had the first around. He asked me what I had paid (they had made it crystal clear to me on two prior visits that it was MSRP with no discount). I told him I had offered $500 over invoice and had the car on order. He hollered over to his sales manager with my story and the guy just scowled back at both of us!
Gotta tell you - any of you who are still waiting to see it up close and personal - it is just amazing! So totally SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET! The seats are soooooooooooo comfortable and everything just feels right. Can't wait to take one on the road sometime soon.

I understand your frustration with dealers who are ignorant and rude. However, this is unfortunately not limited to Ford, or even "main-line" car dealers.
When I sold Volvo's the BMW dealership down the street would promptly ask upon every request for a test drive (well, almost every...explianed later) "Are you going to purchase a car within the next two weeks?". If any answer other than an emphatic "yes" was provided the test drive was not allowed. I might, maybe, if I like it...these remarks did not make the cut!
Regarding "special" cars (ie: M3's, anything newly released) you had to go through a credit check as well as the entire "selling" procedure, and make a statement of your intent to buy the car before the test drive. Essentially, you had to do everything required to buy the car, before being allowed to test drive it. Funny, I always employed the test drive in hopes of convincing you to do all that paperwork and BUY THE CAR!!!!.
These guys were not simply weeding out the kids in their lime green CRX's with bald tires looking for a joy ride. The only reason these clowns sold anything was certain folks simply want a BMW and nothing else, but will suffer much to be able to service it locally without a hassle.
It is also worth mentioning that if you were obviously loaded the above "rules" regarding a test drive did not appy. But, most BMW owners are not loaded.
There are a lot of really bad dealers out there, and very few truly good ones. It amazes me that these clowns get a franchise in the first place.

Exactly. All ya gotta do is exercise a little patience - or just pick a different dealer.
And BTW, houtex, some of us did get the Star Wars reference. Nice.
Saw a car at the dealer on Saturday while in for service. BMW X5 4.8is. Next to the factory sticker, another sticker - this one said "addl' dealer markup - $10,000". As ridiculous as that sounds, it's no more ridiculous than the clown who's actually gonna pay that 10k.
