The acura TL has that. The car senses when your bluetooth phone is in the car. Then any calls coming in on that phone turn down the volume of your music and come in through the sound system. Hands free. As a city biker often run down by cell phone wielding SUV drivers, I look forward to this technology spreading out across the industry.

Exactly right. And if Ford is willing to provide this in the Mustang, I wonder if NAV can be far behind...perhaps in a more upscale SE variant in the next year or two.

Here's hoping, cause NAV is the greatest electronic invention to hit cars in years! You know who you are.

 

Even knowing I will have to dedicate my life to keeping it clean, I love the black- especially with a white stripe. Lovely. Black with Dark charcoal is going to kill in the swamp heat summers we have, but it looks great!

I can't believe you guys never heard of Bluetooth Carkits? It's a device that emulates the user interface, mike and speaker of your cell phone over a wireless connection so you can leave your phone in your pocket, briefcase, whatever. Once you have paired your phone and your carkit the kit wil recognise and connect your cellphone any time it get's into range (read: you step into your car). No more need for bulgy ugly phone holders on the dash or fiddeling around with the phone when entering or leaving the car.

This Ford one actually is pretty simplistic. I have one from Siemens in my car that includes a display as well so you can see who's calling.



With the left rocker button you can pick up or end a call and with the right rocker button you can scroll your addressbook. All transmission between the car kit (and it's speakers and mike) and the phone (phone hardware and antenna) goes over bluetooth.

Besides ease of operation another major advantage of this technology is that it is phone brand independent. So if you swith phones you don't need to replace your carkit anymore. Completely integrated bluetooth car phone units (some even with buttons in the steering wheel) are already available from premium brands like BMW, Mercedes and Aston Martin. My guess is they will become normal equipment like airbags and anti lock brakes within a few years.
