Leave your top down in the rain?

As I was driving to the local courthouse to get some papers, it started pouring down rain, and I noticed how many people were driving motorcycles and how wet they were getting. Then I saw a convertible with the top still down, so how many of you have accidentally left your convertible top down in the rain? And what kinda damage was done?

Got caught twice in the rain while driving. I immediately pulled over and put the top up. Then ran to the trunk and grabbed the microfiber towel and wiped everything. No damage. I can't imagine the rain will be enough to damage anything provided you close the top up right away. I never leave the top down when parked, and if you do, then you are asking for it.

What he said. If she is parked, the top is up, unless I am going to be standing within a few feet.

Only had to put the top up one time because of rain so far. It started, I pulled over, and put the top up. No problem.

You can actually drive with your top down in the rain. As long as you've got a little speed (>30 mph), the rain wraps mostly around the car. Sometimes it beats slowing down and getting drenched while the top goes up.

And is it just me, or does the top take even LONGER to go up when it's pouring???

+1!!!

If you drive in the rain with the top down IMHO you don't care about your car or it's a rental.

I see the rentals here do it all the time it's not thiers so I assumed they didn't give a rip . I almost got caught once stopped at a red light put it up and got my son in the back seat with a cloth to take care of the inar dusting !
Now hey if it rained would'nt that be a nice feature automatic at least top up with out latching anyways.

I can't speak for Mustangs but I had one of these experiences in my Z28 convertible many years ago. My wife and I are driving down the interstate at 60 mph (55 mph days) one night and out of nowhere, it starts pouring. It was raining so hard that you could not see the lane markings. We both dipped down as low as we could and took the first exit. After putting the top up, I examined the rear seat and only the very tops of the cushions were wet. The funny thing is both the tops of our heads were soaked. Only the tops! We both shook ours heads like a dog shakes his body after a bath and water went everywhere! It was kind of funny....

haha, we had that trouble with a Jeep one time. On the way to vacation, we were in a Jeep that luckily had a mesh top, but as long as we were moving, we didnt get wet.

One of the girls at work left the windows down on her Lexus one day. The rain fried out all the interior electonics including the window switches, door locks, and yes, the radio. A few months later...she did it again! That time she bought a new one. Yeah just bought a new one. Rich parents. Enough said.
