To everyone posting about loving to keep that new car smell. You do know that that smell is harmful, right? All those plastics curing let off toxic fumes that will cause harm to your body.
Now I'll go and spill the beans that I drive my classic mustang about 100 miles a year, so beat that! I wish I could drive it more but it just ain't in the cards with young kids you gotta haul around.

I've got 6100 kms (3600 miles) and it's gone into hibernation for the winter. I think this is the best Mustang ever, but I have a daily driver "beater" which alraedy has dings, dents, scratches and a broken windshield so I will continue to use it for regular transportation.
Took a 3000 km (1800 mile) trip through the mountains early this month and loved every second. I too intend to have this car a long time so I want to keep it special.
I have no illusions of it appreciating in value, but the idea of a pristine original in 20 years is intriguing. To each his own.

I'm less than 3 weeks away from my 1 year anniversary and I just hit 1,300 miles
It's not that I don't want to drive it everyday, it's just that the parking at work and everywhere I go really sucks! But tomorrow's Friday, and the lot will be mostly empty...time to hear that rumble and slam through the gears :drive:

Hey Smart Guy: :nono:
The 1965 Mustang had a production of 559,451 units.
What is the value today of one of these cars in showroom condition...
You better do your homework...
P.S. My investment will be worth nothing - just like your 1968 GT ...

How about this, I'll buy real estate(I just bought 38 acres in AZ). In 25 years let's talk. I can tell you right now, that I am already making large gains on the land in 3 months of ownership. I love cars, but know that they are an expense, especially performance cars.

Car was picked up first week of January '05. 11 months later- 18,000 miles.
I win, for getting the most enjoyment out of her.
Oh, and saying "well in 25 years I will be smiling" is dumb.
That's like saying you have a one of these in showroom condition. (1980)
(although that girl is friggin hot, I wouldn't mind holdin on to that at night )
yey. cars depreciate...invest in real estate if you want to make money.
It's a shame to keep such a wild beast in the pasture all the time.

Well - I'm over 17k miles - so its certainly not an investment in anything except happiness!
Investment - just bought 4.87 acres in NC, paved road, cul-de-sac, electric, water, etc already ran - $28k. Smaller lot next door sold for $35k. I'll hold that for awhile.
I bought 5 acres in FL in 1987 - paid 25k. Sold for $203k, bought my house with that last year. Real estate is the way to go if you have patience.

I've got 17,500 on my car in a little over 8 months These cars are meant to be driven and enjoyed. You want to stare at something, buy a nice painting.

I bought mine, not as an investment, but as a toy. Therefore, I do not want to drive it everyday. My parents bought a 69 Dodge Charger in 1969. They still have the car with only 66000 miles on it. They still enjoy it as their toy because the car still looks brand new and all the numbers match. Some day, I hope to still be enjoying my great looking toy. Do not begrudge those who chose to do that.
Happy Trails

I've had mine for a year and one month and have 17,800 miles on it. A lot of those miles are due to a 100 mile round trip commute I had for about 4 1/2 months. I only drive 30 miles round trip now. I bought my Mustang as an everyday car, and look forward to driving it every morning. I keep it clean and looking new. I only plan on keeping it for 4 more years. Then I'll probably get the latest Mustang on the market.
I don't believe in buying a mass produced vehicle as an investment. I'd rather invest the money in securities and real estate. Now a Ford GT, or even the upcoming Mustang Shelby Cobra, that's another story.

65 Mustang --- 40 years old. If a guy were to figure his storage at $30 per month--- $14,400 in storage alone!

Brad, thanks for the supporting evidence...

By the way, I never said that I bought this car for an "INVESTMENT"....
However, I did say that I believe it will appreciate in value with low miles and in showroom condition...
