Just about smacked up the car on the track

Ran another autocross event yesterday and for the first time the car got away from me and of all places it was at the fastest part of the track layout. Doing very close to 60mph heading into a slalom on the backstreach of the speedway and the car just plain started to fishtail hard to the right. All I saw was the white wall coming and the car was hooking itself right towards it. I managed to get the car straightened out and thought the rear of the car would smack the wall, but I missed it by no more than a foot.

Man, I felt bad in my gut after that one. 2 years of autocrossing with the 05 and this was the first time the car surprised me. It has always been very very predictable. Oh well, no harm no foul, but I felt like puking for about 1 1/2 hours after it happened.

No....I have no pictures, none required thank god!

The was one casualty however, I launched a poor innocent cone about 3 miles when I went sideways!!!

Better a cone than your quarter panel!

Glad you pulled it off, we don't need anymore pics of hurt Mustang's here.

I like to go ahead and scare myself driving the car too hard the first time out at an autocross event. But I don't do it close to a light post or a wall. I like to overdrive the car into a turn after a long straightaway and see what the car will do with an understeer condition. The next run, I like to see what the car will do with throttle induced oversteer in the same corner and get a feel of how the car reacts. Otherwise I always think I could have done something more, taken the turn somewhat faster. My $.02

No insurance company will insure a car in a racing event, you are on your own. I was pushing the car very hard to see what I could do on that part of the track because I messed up earlier in the run so I had nothing to loose in the way of time. I did learn the car does have its limits and it can surprise you.

Like I said, I have been autocrossing for about 8 years now and raced go-karts for 4 years as well. I have some track experience and the 05 is very predictable. So for this to have happened was a shock for me.

I am humbled and I will remember this for the next event on Sep 30.

I still can't wait to get back on the track. Driving to a from work every day playing by the rules gets boring. At least at the track there are no cops out to fine the hell out of me!

Good point, but I think it would be like pushing a rope up hill.
