Very intetresting, I have an article on this "paint protectant" layer and I think it is worht the price for long term liability. It's cheaper and also protect from UV rays which mostly Dodge automobile suffer from. I'm getting it applyed in 2 weeks.

All sounds great but protecting the paint from chipping is only one issue.. You got door dings, dents, scrapes and other elements that over time ruin a cars beauty. Unless you keep it garaged and don't drive it anything goes. It is the most frustrating thing about owning a nice new car. At least the inside you have pretty much control over the wear with the exception of the what the sun does over time. Just something to think about.

Here is a price from one of the local (NE Ohio) places that put the stuff on. I am going to have it done in about a month (getting stripes put on now--painted) and want to cover that investment. Body shop guy says one of his guys had it done on his car and it looked great (cuz you couldn't see it)...Hope this helps.

To cut and install 3M stoneguard on your 2005 Mustang,

Hood & Fenders.............$190.00
Bumper & Door Handles...$325.00
Rocker Panels.................$200.00

We can do your car any time with just a days notice, We are not to far from
you in Portage Lakes.

Thanks for the interest in such a great product. If you have any more
questions E-mail or call 330-644-4455

There are a number of different Xpel products for the Mustang. There is a hood and fender kit that goes for $180. It appears to cover the first foot or so of the hood and fenders. They also have a rocker panel kit for $190 and a headlight/foglight kit for $60 (this stuff supposely also protect lights from breakage). I'd also invest in some of the bulk material and cover the bottom of the rear quarters below the panel line and also the front fenders behind the front wheels. That would probably do the trick.

Regarding covering the whole hood with this stuff, the widest size they make is 24 inches. I guess hypothically you could run two lengths up the hood but I'm not sure how that would look, but I'll bet it wouldn't look too bad if you had a nice pair of stripes to match the edges up against! Something to consider.

BTW, the 24" width costs $12/foot (8mil thick).
