went up to charlotte N.C. last week and got sand and pebble blasted by 18 wheelers.my hood now has a few tiny chips in it.The urethane nose has not a single mark.Im thinking that the aluminimum does not hold on to paint as well as plastic or steel.A bra would not help cause the chips are in the middle of the hood.not bad enough to notice, but not a welcome sight.

any metal surface is prone to chip when it gets pelted with rock

The solution is the following distance. The alternative is a needle or fine tooth pick and touch up paint.

I have a rock chip at the front edge of my hood from highway driving. Its not too noticeable, but still annoying.

Just a guess, but the paint on the bumpers has an additive that allows the paint to be flex instead of crack. This may make it less prone to chipping compared to the paint on the hood.

What about a bug guard, have you considered installing one?

This is the key.
Follow by no less than 5 car lengths.
If someone passes you and moves in front, back off.

It's just as much the paint as it is the distance. My '03 chipped real easy. I even have a chip on the trunk that I got within 2 weeks of buying it.

I got one too, funny thing is it didn't come off a truck, but I did see the big honkin thing flying up at my car. At 70 mph by the time I saw it, it was too late.

I'm actually surprised it didn't leave a dent or a bigger chip!

I took my 05 to the do it yourself car wash... pressure was low...
I have a couple of stone chips on the front end... facia and hood...
The major problem... when I was spraying off the hood 2 dime size chips of paint flew off.
Called my dealer and they said there is a problem with paint chips.
They asked me to come in so they can take dig pictures and send them to Ford.
They could not tell me over the phone if it will be covered.
Kind of funny though... I just sold my 96 Corvette a couple of months ago... it had 110,000 miles on it... 1 stone chip.

I was just checking it out for myself. Pricey, but looks very interesting. I'd like to see it in person though first before making the investment.

The hood, fenders and rocker panels chip very easily on the stang... Been driving me nuts... 1700 miles and 5 chips..

I have a total of 6 chips on my liberty in 2 years - driving over the cascades in the summer....

My wife has the 3M product on the nose of her Lexus ES300. It is a little pricey but well worth the money. Once it is on there you barely even notice it until the car gets dirty.

i saw that clear film people use on the front ends of cars on a porsche and it went accross the hood about half way up and the only thing i didnt like was the fact that you could see the line, but if you could cover the whole hood and the fenders and front bumper and there was no line i would say go for it

I have a ton of hood chips already and it's driving me nuts. I had over 100k on my F150 on didn't have half as many as I do in 4 months with the stang. It's my only real dissappointment with the car. Bugs me more than even the squeaky brakes.
