interesting comments from a 15 yr old...
What attracted me most to the 05-09 Mustangs was that they were designed to look like throwbacks to the late '60's or early 70's Mustangs. Driving my '08 GT vert makes me feel kind of like I have a classic car, but with all the modern amenities. I don't get that vibe from the '10-'11 stangs. I don't think they are ugly, and I even think the rear end is OK, they just don't have that retro look anymore.
Having said that, if someone offered me a straght-up trade - my '08 for a similar '11, I wouldn't think twice

We do respect the new 10-11 bodies! As they are now part of our Mustang family. That being said, if you really love the 05-09 bodies, get out there and find a leftover one on a Ford new car lot (for cheap) before they are all gone! Predict that ten years from now they will be the ones everyone who really loves Mustangs will be out there tring to find! Yes they did make a lot of them didn't they. But also thinking that the ones that do survive will be the retro super stars of the Mustang Classics World in the future!! Just my opinion based on past Mustang history.

Correct. As far as collectibility, my gut tells me the '05 through '09 GT, GT C/S, Bullitt and Shelbys will be the ones to hang onto. the '10 and '11 to a lesser extent (even considering the 5.0 in the 2011 - which will NOT make that much difference in the long run).
I have no plans on ever getting rid of my '05. You can put me in the "hate the rear" column for the new cars. But that new 5.0 is one hell of an engine! I just wish Ford would develop an adapter harness so I could wedge one into my '05. I think an '05 with a 5.0 would be a LOT of fun!
heres a 'boat' and a couple S197 Mustangs...no photchopping either, this is a real pic of our 65 four door LTD, the wifes 07, and my 06 gt...was working in the garage, moved the cars out front...
when I first walked out to get the mustang I glanced out and thought WTF? the 65 looked like a pedal car sitting there with them Mustangs

) and change that butt a bit to make it more "pleasant" to the eye. This reminds me of when I bought my first fox body Stang. I loved the front end of the 4 eyed nose/lighting but then when I got my 87 5.0 The front end left a little after taste if you would call it. It took a while to grow on me but then they were everywhere. So the 5.0 comes back and looks ugly in the butt now to make up for the ugly nose in the past. Its all cool, its still a Mustang through and through.
+1 I'm probably going to wait for the next redesign but if I end up getting one of the current 5.0's its immediately getting the S281 front and rear! Its my favorite looking 2010+ by far

Ditto to everything you posted. And I will probably pick up another some day. I got the auto so the wife could drive it and she barely does anymore. Wouldn't mind a manual vert as a garage queen. I keep telling my wife that I love this car too much to get rid of it. I figure if I pick up a 2nd one the kids can argue over who gets what when I die
. Should finally pass 100k in late July or early August!
The thing that might sway people toward a 2011 is if they drove one. I drove one and all of the sudden, the back didn't look as bad to me.
Something about the center console kept bothering my elbow though...
That being said...I just bought a 2007 with 5,100 miles on it. I just have to wait for it to get here.

That said, the new 5.0 and 6 speed are great stuff! It's a shame Ford jumped the shark on aesthetics...
I have to say I like both individually, I just like both cars, a lot.
I have been waiting since 2004 to see this happen! I looooooove those Cougar like tails.
Next we'll be on to the log axle.
Hating the rear end. It's not a tribute to any mustangs and not a ressemblence to any prior models. Not a heritage thing either. They should've gone more towards the elongated lights they used for the 2005 prototype, THAT would've been a total hit in my opinion, not that hideous thing they did with the rear end.

I have also been trying to let the '10-11 models grow on me, but I still don't like how it looks, especially the rear.
For me, this probably means I will be hanging on to my '05 for a very very long time. Instead of selling every 5-6 years I'll probably just keep this one running and replace what starts breaking and wearing over time. If I really want the extra horsepower, I'll just add forced-induction when I rebuild, and probably save a lot of money compared to buying a new car.
I'd rather rebuild the engine, tranny, etc if needed when the mileage gets really high than trade it for one of the new models. I'm sure many like the new body style, but it isn't for me.

CalStangI feel exactly that way...our 'spare' 09 is nearly 2 yrs old already, now has 4.1 miles...not gonna get plated/driven till the 06 dies - or I do and the wife/kids sell it

till then it will remain forgotten in the garage, except for getting started/moved around bi-weekly.
