Yeah, I read that explanation too. Here's my problem with the way they're doing it: They're trying to mix qualitative and quantitative data together and pretend as though they're providing some sort of objective data, when all they're doing is measuring opinions.
Durability and reliability are one thing...whether one is too stupid (or not) to operate a control, is another...and should be in a separate survey, IMHO.

Yeah, that math is a little screwy. What it means is that for every 100 vehicles sold, there are 142 reported problems, which comes to 1.42 problems per car. Now some could have 5 problems, and others have none. It really has nothing to do with the odds of having a problem with your new car.
