Illegal tint on my car...thread #2
and Id like to re-ask my question from the last thread since no one answered it:
if it is unsafe to approach a vehicle that you can not see into, whether it be tint or something else, then what sense does it make to pull someone over and approach a tinted vehicle that you can not see into when the ONLY crime being committed was having tinted windows? to me it makes no sense to require officers to put themselves in possible harms way to enforce a law designed for their safety; or am I the only one that sees the irony (and stupidity) in that?

More to my point that the law is for driving safety, not police. Clear visibility for the driver and so other cars can see the dirver. Otherwise no tint would be allowed in the rear either, since that is where a cop would approach in most cases.
There are cites in this thread of cops being gunned down, but no info on whether the vehicle having tint had anything to do with it or why the stop was being made in the first place. What pct of shootings were when the stop was made specifically for tint?? My guess would be a figure less than none....
My reasons for no tint at all on any of my cars is.
1. Its not easy to see out of at night in rural areas(no street lights).
2. When parked out at night anywhere and a bad guy thinks there is something in your car he/she wants but can't see in then there goes the glass.

Thanks for the civics lesson, but there are Federal Laws which apply across the board. If you are drunk driving on federally owned lands (ie. national park or military base), you can be charged with a DUI under federal law. Why is there no federal tint law if it’s so important? Also why would some states choose not to have tinting laws? Do you think they want their cops in more danger? Obviously not, it just means that it’s not of paramount safety concern.
The entire thread is a joke in fact. "I Know what I did was illegal but should I keep doing it and ask a freind who knows a cop to do something he shouldnt and keep driving or not??!"....OK. You know what you should do, now pull the teet from your mouth and do it or keep getting fined and pay it. End of discussion.
One last thing before the thread disappears. We all park our cars 5 miles from the store in a parking lot because we dont want a tiny nick in the side or cart hitting it or whatever reason but we are going to question why a cop would not want to walk up to a car with the windows tinted out??! OK.....
No offense Zag but a month ago when you said you had no issue stealing software od cd's because you werent going to get ripped off for something that should be free or some sh*t I stopped listening to anything you had to say. I still assume you are in the military and commend you for that if that is the case. However the crap you stated about cops in your response was garbage.

I believe in South Carolina someone can't be pulled primarily for tint. I believe the illegal tinting charge can be tacked on to any moving violation a person can receive. At least this was the way it worked back in '99 when my brother got pulled by Lexington PD for speeding. The office then tacked on a hefty $400 fine for havig illegal tint (combination limo and holographic). He got one more ticket for the tint after that and that was the last time he had tint on his Neon before he got another car.
Shea, a question..
Is it the side windows or your windshield tht is tinted?
You posted in your original thread that you knew it was illegal for tint past the four inch limit. I see everybody fussing about tint and such but nobody is actually reading the post. Just clarify, is it the windshield you have tinted.
Here's a link for everybody about tint laws by state too. http://www.tintdude.com/laws.html

and why would other drivers need to see you while you are driving?
the last part about tint in the rear and approaching from the rear is an argument I made about tint as a safety issue for officers not making sense.
that would completely depend on the individual driver. For instance I can see much better with my windows tinted, both day and night; especially at night.

I don't know about the cops in your town but once they ticket you for windows, they will be on the look out for you the following week. How many tickets will you pay before its not worth it any more. One 30 dollar ticket was enough for me. But I am poor any way
