Domestic v Export!

What are the differences in Mustangs that are exported?

I wonder if the taillights are different. As far as I know, European cars must have amber rear turn lights on the outside corners....

My tailights are the same, but I know that in Europe they must have amber turn signals. They also require fender mounted amber signals under the GT emblem. The only differences with my car is that mine came with an ashtray and a kit in the trunk with tools and an extinguisher.

In Germany you'll need (in addition to the amber turn signals) a rear fog light... Can be done tastefully, but I've seen a V6 on the Autobahn 2 years ago which had a round 2-inch light bolted directly into the rear bumper. You'll also need a switch which adjusts the height of your headlights' beams depending on your load and high pressure headlight cleaning system for HID's / Xenons...

Wow.. is that what those are! I was in Germany a few times and noticed those lights but didn't really know what they were all about. And where's the ashtray?

Might be fun if those outside the US posted pictures of the export mods required!

Canadian cars have kilometers in the large digits on the speedometer and miles as the small ones. Also the max speed reading is higher, at 240 kph (149.12 mph)
The units of measurement in the message center default to litres and kilometers and if you change it to gallons it changes to imperial gallons instead of US gallons.
Canadian cars also have day time running lights as required by law up here.
Exact same car otherwise.

That's why I love being US military stationed in Germany, Don't have to follow their silly vehicle requirements (well most of them anyway), but still get to enjoy the speed of the autoban

I'll try to find some, have to search the net a while since I'm not in Germany any more...

Here's one I took 2 years ago (with my good ol' Mini Cooper, also explains my username and Cali license plate... ), there you can see the extra reverse light as they use the regular ones for amber turn signals.

Dutch regulations are much less strict than the German ones, therefore me and the fellow Stangers here got away without amber rear turnlights and rear foglamps. In fact, the only addition my dealer had to make was the pair of front fender turnlamps, just above the emblems. Also, because my car was imported from Canada, the dealer had to disable the DRLs.

Rear fog lights are great to have in the US. When I drive my wife's Audi, I turn them on when someone is tailgating me. Since they are brighter then the brake lights, people behind you think you are hitting the break and then hit there's to avoid a collission. Little do they know you haven't slowed down a bit.

Well as the name suggests they are very useful in fog, especially thick morning fog. Also during a blizzard, heavy rain, or sandstorm (get a lot of those here). It helps people behind you see you from a greater distance and are thus less likely to crash into you.

OK, so it's more for the other drivers than yourself. I just couldn't see a purpose for illuminating the road behind your car.

the 2007 U.S. models don't have DRL? i thought almost every car in the U.S. has them today even though they're not mandatory here.

There is nothing worse then rear fog lights. They only dazzle drivers behind, I hate them. But in my opinion amber turn signals are much better then red, are more visible. Also better solution then US are asymmetrical headlights, lights much better, it's easier to see objects on shoulder.

I think that the best solution for amber turn indicators (rear and side) comes from Japan, because doesn't change original Ford design too much.

I try to buy this items but nobody sells them
Sorry for my english

Nah not mandatory but GM and Saturn are trying to cram DRLs down our throats by making it standard on all their models, and suppporting the "blind" lobbiests that are trying to have the US Gov't rule for mandatory DRLs.

Maybe DRLs come in handy in the darker Northern regions like Canada but I see too many people in the US with DRLS that forget to turn on the rest of their lights at dusk/dark so they are just driving around with headlights and no tail lights or side markers. Plus they look really stupid driving around during the day with only one light lit on their vehicle when one of the DRL bulbs burns out.

OK, rant over, back to topic...
