As far as this situation, I would've stayed close enough to clearly see if he tried the handle. After that, I can't say what the voices in my head would've made me do.

If that had happened to me, I would have remote started the car. I am guessing the Borlas would have scared him off...

Anyway, we're walking between cars and I notice this guy parallel to us headed in the direction of my car. Keep in mind there was only one other car in that direction and he seemed fixated on my car. I watched as he passed the last car before it would be obvious he was headed for mine and he paused then kept going. So I stopped with my woman behind an SUV to see what he was going to do. We were about 40yds from my car and he's headed for the driver side. He walked slowly up to my car then around the back. I couldn't quite see for sure from where I was but it looked like he tried my door. He walked around the back of the car glancing through the back window then kept walking through the parking lot.

Did he see us? I don't know.
I would have hit the red button on the fob to see what he'd do ? it works for me glad youse are safe !
Do I think he was up to no good? yes.

Like I told my girl, if you ever see someone screwing with the car in a parking lot go back in the mall/store/ crowded place and call the cops. If something doesn't feel right, go back inside and call the cops. Let them have the stupid thing. If someone wants something bad enough they'll find a way to steal it...

ps- recently in atlanta there's a crew cruising mall parking lots ambushing women and stealing their wedding rings...

keep your head up and eyes open in the parking lots.
I would use my key fob and set off the alarm that works for me. Glad you two are safe !

One time someone was at my drivers door after I got out of work, and I worked at home depot at the time so I took the p.o.s. not the stang. This was in Hartford (ghetto) at around 11pm. I felt strange going into work so I took one of my pistols with me, and left it in my locker (against company policy). So as I am walking to my car parked at the far end of the lot, and the guy started walking towards me and told me to give him my keys and showed me a knife. Needless to say I took a step back and pulled a .357 on him. He left in a drugged out stupper, and I called the cops, who then resided in that lot for the rest of the time I had worked there (In this lot in one month had 12 cars stolen from the depot and bj's. mostly escorts and p.o.s's which must have had a high part value)

This is why I drive the 95 Blazer to any place were I have to park for any extended period of time. Its too bad that there are so many rectal donkeys out there that cannot respect a fine car.

It is so F'd up that you have to drive your POS and leave the nice car at home because of scum bags. I get up every morning an go to work at 5 a.m. until 5 p.m. and then go to night classes to finish my Master's in an effort to make a good living and have nice things. I am not going to roll over and give up something that I worked so hard to get to some low life thugh. If some thug approaches me with a knife and asks me for my keys I am going to shoot them over and over again until my clip is empty. In the situation described above the person was well within their rights to defend themselves.

In my city, Kennesaw, GA, it's actually against the law to not own a gun. A city ordinance was passed in 1982 requiring every head of household to own a gun with ammunition. AFAIK, the ordinance has never been enforced--just one of those odd laws on the books. It was a response to city in Illinois that passed a law banning handguns.

I never drive my mustang if I have to do anything that requires parking in the city of Atlanta.

You might want to reconsider that position. If someone threatens you with a knife and you pull a gun and shoot them once, you will probably get off with a "self-defense" defense.

Empty an entire clip into the person, and I guarantee you will find yourself trying to beat a second degree murder charge.

Good point about using the remote. It really didn't occur to me until after we had left.

I've participated in a few self defense seminars where the police gave out tips. Some of the following come from them...

Some tips for living in the big city:

We had a detective from the violent crimes division give a presentation and he said the common denominator among all the rapes/assaults was that every single victim said "It didn't feel right". Meaning, they felt like the person was up to no good, the situation didn't feel right or they had a bad feeling but they ignored it and got attacked. So, heed the "doesn't feel right" feeling and do something about it like leave.

For example, some guy had an arm in a sling and asked a woman in the parking lot for help loading his car. She helped and got assaulted.

Another detective from New Orleans mentioned the walk with a purpose tactic. He said there were very few assaults of black women. Most of them were against white women. You watch a black woman walk down the street and they typically walk like they own the street. The typical white woman will walk like lost Bambi. He said they'd done studies before and the bad guys prefer the easy targets. Like I had mentioned in a previous post, the criminals are lazy asses that's why they steal others stuff. They don't want to work for it. Know where you're going, don't walk aimlessly messing with your phone or anything else. Get to your car and move on.

This same detective said if you are attacked at your car NEVER get in the car with them. He had seen very few people survive. You might as well fight for your life right there because he's already made the decision that your not going to survive.

Gas stations, parking lots and banks are hotspots.

I typically don't like having my keys in my hand until the last second. I prefer having my hands free since it limits what you can do if keys are in hand.

if there is a windowless van parked next to the driver side of the car walk around to the front and take a glance inside before going to your door. Make sure there aren't guys inside waiting in ambush. I've read before from an FBI study that kidnappers prefer white vans with a sliding door. They can easily slide the door open while you're distracted with your drivers door and pull you into the van then take off. No idea why they prefer white.

banks- if you're in the drive thru leave the car in D or in gear. I take my seat belt off. Again, you're limited to what you can do if you're strapped in. Always check your mirrors and make sure no one is approaching. Get your cash and GO. Don't sit there and fiddle with putting the cash away.

if you go inside the bank, drive around the bank and take a peak in the windows and look to see if everything looks ok. if you're on the drive thru side you can often see inside the whole bank. this way you don't walk into a robbery.

i do this same thing anytime i go in someplace especially at night. Just pay attention and look inside the windows of the business before going in. Like last night, i went to a pizza place that has a back door. I chose to go to the front since you can see everything inside before going in.

I think the key is to use your head and take your own security in your hands.

One thing these clowns like to do is find a reason to approach you. Our cars are a shoe in. We all have hot cars and it gives someone an excuse to get close. I have people come up to me all the time asking about the car which is fun. Who doesn't like talking about the car. It's more prevalent now that the weather is nice. On the flip side, it gives someone with mal intentions to get close also. You just have to be able to tell the difference...

The best defense is One's Head.

Use your brain and think.

Be aware, be confident, proceed with plan and purpose;- be prepared to defend.

In TX, if they get shot stealing my car or threatening my safety in way of my Property, they have no business doing something they need not be doing in the first place. Just make sure to shoot to kill. There is no sorrow or guilt in advance when it comes to myself or my Property.

Yes, Theives are lazy and look for easy targets. Remember too, they are equally as mentally creative as they are lazy. Do not underestimate the Enemy.

I don't go to malls, stadiums, movie venues, etc. Go with a friend or pay One's own way. Since I have nice cars, IMO, I can afford a little investment into a safe means of travel to these places, albeit I frequent them rarely.

Yes, upon going to a Bank or shop in the day or night, I take the time to go around and case the joint before I proceed. On the car park and on the inside. Think like them and act like them.

Once had 2 criminals follow me around in a Wal-Mart and I never let on I knew. Watched them in the reflections in mirrors, wall hangings, etc. When I was exiting out of the building I hauled out some CS Tear Gas, blew off a little teaser shot and started after them like I was ready to consume them. They ran and hollared and [knew] I was out for blood. The shear shock of unawareness nearly got to them. The Security near the front door, in the Texaas twang, said they sure as heck wont be back here again.

So, moving to Kennesaw, then.

Looking up the Crime stats. for One's area on a regular basis is not a bad idea either. And also in knowing the typical areas of high crime in One's city to avoid.

See this poses a problem for me as I often walk over to other Mustangs in parking lots (guess I just need to make time to go to a show or meet) to see what they did to their car. I keep a goot distance and never touch it (out of respect of course) but I have been worried about someone thinking I am trying to steal the car or the owner flipping out on me. None the less this is a growing problem and people continue to go to greater measures to take whats not theirs and hurt others.
