I've heard that the Stang travels 0-60 in 5.2, 5.3. That'll do it for me, forget the weight.
That's GTO, WRX numbers....Ford probably did underrate the 300 hp. So now I need 3 things......time, patience, and money.

I hope its before september, earlier is better... I cant contain the sonic blue running through my viens.....!
I've got a Question though.... the V6 and GT are being built at the same plant? If so, at the same time?.... or in shifts per days/weeks/months?
Thanks if you know.

I'm hoping the week I come back from my honeymoon (around July 28) I can go and buy me a GT. I'm debating on wether to get the Delux or the Primium. Probably whatever I feel is the better deal, more for your money.
Does anyone think they would redo the racing stripes red? I want to get black with red stripes, and black/red leather interior, then I start with customizing!

V10 did you tape record that conversation???? Either that or you got some amazing photographic memory. Guys I can vouch for those responses being accurate. I think V10 was the guy with me that was playing with the info center buttons.

No, I did not have a tape recorder. I may be getting old, but at least my memory still seems to work. To remember as much as I could, I went through all the conversations in my mind on the drive home and then started typing as soon as my computer booted.
Good to meet you up there.

If they really start production in 2 - 3 weeks, it will be "pilot" runs. The line will be running slow and they'll probably be running a single short shift. The outside vendors also have to get the production of the parts they are supplying ramped up too.
So production volume over the next couple months will be VERY limited.
Nexst they have to make sure that they can build the Stangs correctly.
Then they have to ramp up line speed.
The first cars off the line will most likely go to the car rags. for testing.
But, this is still good news.

If what this Ford engineer told me it accurate, it looks like they are ahead of schedule to launch Job 1 on Sept 7.

About the weight.
I think Ford has tried the best they can to make it light. From what I've heard for example about the hood. It's supposed to be very light, even so light, you are afraid to dent it when you close it.

Regarding weight:
Mach 1 Curb Weight 3469 lbs
05 Mustang:
+ longer wheelbase
+ longer, wider, taller
+ 2 piece driveshaft w/ higher powertrain bending
+ 30% stiffer coupe
+ 100% sfiffer convertible
+ side airbags
+ improved safety performance
+ higher torque rear axle shafts
+ larger rear vented rotors
+ larger gas tank w/ more capacity
Curb weight: 3470 lbs
Sounds like crappy engineering to me :bang:

ok.. first off.. this car is STILL lighter than the now defunct F-bodies. Couple that with the fact that you don't have to add subframe connectors to get the the stiffness out of the new chassis, I think the car is great.
Those stripped-down tin cans like the EVO and STI have been gutted, (no insulation, etc). The new Mustang is a civilized, confortable sports car, with the power to smoke anything close to it's price.

I forgot to mention that, the Ford person said the production GT's WILL have an insulation layer under the hood and it will have a pony logo on it.
Dustin, do you remember if he said only the GT's or if the V6's get the insulation too?

with all the federally mandated safety and emmission systems that modern cars must carry and the increasing attention to safer cars, it is extremely difficult to keep the weight off on a new car. this will continue into the future and make it extremely hard for the auto makers to hold costs down and still make a car that meets feds standards.
it's not rocket science to make the car light, it's just very expensive...many parts can be made from aluminum, but you wouldn't be buying a gt for 24-25k if there was extensive use of aluminum.
from the looks of the engine bay pics, most of the motor is behind the front axle plane...now THAT"s critical...much more so than the weight of the car...the more of the engine that the designers can get behind the front wheels, the better she will handle. jackg 90 seville 94k

No major SE till 2007 but there is a slight SE (very minor changes, nothing we have anticipated) coming out either in late 05 or early 06. It's nothing I'd jump for joy over. I did see a list of SE they are considering and the concept art for the SE models. They had art for a Bullitt, Mach 1, Boss, Shelby Cobra, as well as other SE ideas. This was from an internal document so you know they are at least what they are considering.![Wink](https://themustangsource.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
I myself am hoping these are just ideas and not 100% finalized plans and that they actually release a major SE (Bullitt, Mach 1, etc.) in 2006 cause that's when I'll be buying my Mustang.

Oooooo. Can't wait. Great info!
Production weight isn't that big a deal. Shoot, by the time you throw the wife and a bag of clubs in the trunk, er... wife in the front and clubs in the trunk
you've added nearly 200lbs. Arguing about weight is like arguing about computer processor speed. There are so many things you can do to tweak it, why worry
