I Pulled the Trigger
I Pulled the Trigger
Well, I’ve been lurking around here for a while, researching, questioning, dreaming.
Today I did it…plunked down a deposit and ordered one:
Tungsten Gray, GT Premium 5-speed, dark charcoal interior
18” polished aluminum wheels; 3.55 rear end; Spoiler Delete;
IUP, Premier Trim (without a second color – just wanted the stitching);
Comfort Group (power passenger seat so the wife can see over the dash
);
Anti theft, side air bags, wheel locks.
I’m told it will be about 8 weeks. If it comes in before April 2, I’ll get a $1,000 rebate, which will go towards the upgrades I’ve got planned:
CAI / tune
Axle back exhaust w/x-pipe (leaning towards FR – love the way the Hertz sounds)
Springs (gotta get that wheel gap down)
Shifter (Hurst?)
Ever since I rented a GT-H last October, I was hooked. At first I thought I’d wind up with a Shelby GT. As much as I like them, I think they are a little overpriced – especially when you factor in the formula: Mustang GT=discount, Shelby GT=ADM.
So my goal is to build something close to (although not a clone of) the Shelby GT. I figure I can attain the same level of performance, save thousands of dollars, and be able to select the options that I want (and not take the ones I don’t…although I think those silver stripes would look good on Tungsten
).
I’ve got two months to sell my ’87 LX http://www.paul-davis.com/vehicles/mussy6_04.jpg – I hate to see it go and would keep it if I had the space. I’ve owned it since ’89 and it’s only got 74,000 miles, but I’m definitely trading up.
Thanks to all for your advice and opinions. Aftermarket research is next on my agenda (right after I find out how to track the car!).

Great Paul,
You're gonna love it once it's yours. I did the same thing, rent then own. I did a 66 GT 350 Retro thing, but mine looks a little like Shelby's GT. I have Charcoal Metallic stripes on White.
Check out owners rides on SilverHorseRacing.com There is a sweet Metallic Gray car on there!
Congrats!

Not sure yet - I met with a group of owners on Sunday and I think each of the 25 had a different one!
Would I be crazy to go with the Ford Racing? Since I want to go with the FR axle backs, I could just get the FR1 kit.
But I am open to suggestions. Fortunately (or unfortunately) I've got some time to think about it.
Ford will take your money, unfortunately you wont get your money's worth. The Ford Racing upgrades are usually fabricated by the aftermarket, but they are not the best the aftermarket has to offer. You can buy a Ford Racing Strut Tower Brace (less the Ford logo) for $89 (Chromed no less!). You can get a CAI, Tuner, and UDPs for $580 (shipped). You can get the FRPP stingers for $380. And the suspension stuff is far less expensive from Eibach or another manufacturer.
I know of guys buying the Drag Pack and being ****ed once they drive my car. I got the Hurst for $189 and 3.55 are fine unless you upgrade tires.
