exclusivity: Parnelli Saleen beats GT500....

Hello all..
I went to get my new GT this morning at Diblasi Ford in Corona (queens), NY, they had a new saleen Parnelli on the parking lot. I forgot my camera! i am such a jerk!! Sorry my fellow mustang brothers!

Sticker is $60K+

i started it up and drove it around the parking lot a few feet. (so lame!!)

in my opinion, this is the Mustang to get if you want long term value and something truly exclusive.

i believe only 500 made? It looks so much more stunning in person than in its pictures. i was WOWED!!!

5.0L 400hp N/A motor....it sounded amazing!!

i say in the long run this will be more of a collector car than the GT500.

Thoughts? Opinions??

hi stangers,

its the grabber orange Parnelli Saleen.

I think cause its a N/A 5.0L motor, it will attrack collectors.

At only 500 being made i think it will be.

If you're asking if the Parnelli will hold its value more than the GT500... then ABSOLUTELY. Pure volume alone will hurt the GT500's value. I'll never know though as I don't have 60K for either .

PJ is so much cooler than the GT500. Just got to love that GO paint job!

Saleen needs to sell the dang parts!

The Dealer closest to me has 4 of the Parnelli Orange 302 Mustangs. The new car salesman said they can't get rid of them (2 are setting in the back lot). But he won't come off the $60 grand price. They also have about 6 Saleens and a Fang Mustang.

The 5.0 motor is readily available from Ford Racing parts. It's just a crate motor.

From what I've read I don't think the Saleen 302 is the same as the crate motor from Ford.

i wonder if it would be a simple upgrade from the 4.6 block to the 5.0 block (for the money and labor)

The Shelby nameplate can do wonders. I'm not entirely sure who the winner will be.

Couldn't you just bore and stroke the stock 4.6/281 engine to 5.0/302?

i have heard people going to 289 or 282 but never 302 it is a long way to go to stroke that much

I was incorrect in assuming the Parnelli Jones stang used a 5.0 Cammer V8.

http://www.saleen.com/saleen-parnellijones.htm

According to the specs sheet, it has a 5.0L 3V V8 that makes 400 hp and 390 ft-lb of torque. With a stroke of 3.80" (http://www.saleen.com/saleen_parnelli_specs.htm) it sounds like a stroked 4.6 3V V8 engine and maybe it is slightly bored over.

It also features 3.73s and 19" wheels.

I'm interested in the air intake:
Saleen Design Shaker Hood with Hi-Flow Inlet Tube and Air Box

Will the airbox fit 05-up GTs?

I checked Saleen's website and found out they have an office in Troy, MI. I thought their logo was familiar... I drove past their office almost every day for a few years!

Yes, but it has a 98mm intake which would be extreme overkill for anything but a supercharged engine (stock displacement). It's just a new top for the stock lower airbox.

Interesting! I long suspected the airbox top and MAF were the restrictions in the intake, and not the filter or lower part of the box. I agree that 98mm is rather overkill, but still feasible.

Our local dealer has a PJ edition also. About a week ago i was at the gas station and heard something take off from the light that sounded really good. Turned around to look and here one of the salemans had it out. One of the baddest sounding stock mustangs i've ever heard. They look awesome too. I realize they are a limited number special edition but i'm a little surpised at the sticker price just because of the fact that you can buy any of the different model blown mustangs for that price. Of course i'm attracted to the fact that it is a n/a 400 hp car.

hi 02pnycgt,
thats the thing! i think there is an attraction to the fact that its a limited production version of the stang that is N/A 400hp. Even though supercharger will perform better, i think there is something special about N/A powered mustang...

man..i wish they made a black one!
