I love my car...but....

...Sometimes it just seems like its too quirky for its own good. I was trying to find a rattle and narrowed it down to somewhere inside the drivers side door panel between the middle of the panel and lock switch and the sound only comes when the door is closed.

I go to try to take it for a test drive and the battery is dead. Only I didn't know that at the time because everything was working fine except for starting the heck up. The stupid On-board computer thing says the charging system was ok. WTF Now I think that I hit a switch that I wasn't supposed to (I was tinkering with the door striker switch) and my viper alarm and active anti theft is mocking my feeble attempts to start it.

My girlfriend shows up and now I'm sweating like a pig (Las Vegas heat) and there are veins popping out of my forehead with frustration.

We get the car jump started (I was glad it was just a drained battery) and she leaves with her friend to go shopping.

I leave the car running for a few minutes.

I turn it off.

I then try to close the door.

It bounces back at me. I just stare at it for a few moments thinking that my car may have turned its back on me. I go to close it again. It bounces back again. I notice that the window is all the way up and not doing its 1 inch deal.

I'm am extremely sour at this point.

Fast forward to the end. I didn't know that I had to reprogram the windows in the event of a severely drained battery.

So whats the moral of this story:
  1. Read your owners manual once a month to be prepared for any and every situation.
  2. Don't try to find, diagnose, or fix interior rattles in Las Vegas at 3 in the afternoon as the heat will cause you to lose your patients and reasonable thinking.
  3. Avoid any DIY activities after an upper division Accounting class revolving around taxable income reconciliations.
  4. Have a girlfriend with jumper cables.
  5. Most importantly, don't flip out like I did thinking that my car had some catastrophic electrical meltdown.

In the end. I still think the S197 has some odd quirks but nothing that can't be handled or hinders the sheer enjoyment of owning one of the nicest Mustangs of all time.

BTW, do I need to worry about my tune and PCM?

You know...I find that from time to time things do this to us....repeatedly all in the same moment. Just a victim of circumstance. Nothing more....unless your car is haunted.

LOL. Its not haunted but it tends to scare pedestrians when I roll it on in first and spin the tires a bit.

But I don't really blame the car. Its just that even after almost a year, this thing still surprises me a bit.

Anyone have any battery suggestions. I believe it may be on its way out anyways. I'm thinking Optima Redtop.

I've got 9100 mi on mine and I hear strange rattles etc every now and again. I hear a rattle when I get on it an 2nd around 3k. It's half engine speed or less and only in 2nd gear at 3k. Kind of like a CM plates are loose in one runner or a exhaust leak in one cylinder. I gave up and write it off to that is the way it is.

Kind of like when I go to the doctor and say "it hurts when I do this" and he says "don't do that."

Just turn up the radio!!

I get that one too.

Oh well, at least it idles like a champ and pulls like a freight train on steroids. In the end, that's all that matters. Mumbles and grumbles are just a part of the game.

A-Pillar was fixed under warranty, and the Door handle I fixed myself as well. I also had the other TSB regarding the door panel vibration with the sound system fixed at the dealer as well. This new one is the Bane of my existence.

Wally World (Wal-Mart) Everstart Plus FTW!!!

But was a PITA to put in. It is physically larger than the OEM piece. Now I need to source some adequate heat protection like the sleeve that went over the stock one. Any thoughts?
