My local news here, has pretty good investigative reporters. I just emailed them a nice long letter explaining my, along with several others, sitiuations with our newly order Mustangs.

I think it could get a response. Its a possible big news story if they can get through to anyone at Ford.

Ford doesn't want bad press on this car. I'll make it happen darn it.

Subject: Problems with Ford Motor Company

Dear Duane and the investigators:

My name is Dan Mathe and I am 17 years old. I have been saving up for a new 2005 Ford Mustang for close to 7 years now. This past summer, on June 13th, I put my order in for a new 2005 Ford Mustang at Marshall Ford East in Mayfield Heights.

Everything was going well. I received a VIN number, was informed that my car was to be built September 27-29, and that it would be shipped to the dealer October 2nd.

On October 4th, my dealer informed me that Ford was holding my car, along with 3000 other units for a "quality hold." There was no specified reason, other than something was defective. I was told my estimated time of arrival was now "to be determined."

It is now November 10th, and my dealer has yet to receive any new info on my car. They have tried calling the local, regional, and national managers of Ford, and not one of them would tell my dealer the specific problem with these 3,000 defective cars, or when mine would be shipped.

In the meantime, people who ordered their cars in October have started to receive their vehicles.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could look into this matter any more. Right now I am paying sticker price for this car, and after this, I feel disinclined to do so. Please remember this is not a problem with Marshall Ford, as they have been more than helpful in this process. It is Ford itself, and the plant in Flat Rock, Michigan, that is at fault.

Here is some general info:

My Car's VIN:
1ZVHT82H2551035874
Built: 9/29
Last updated status: 10/4

I believe it is ridiculous that I have not been able to get any info on my car for more than a month now, and its even more ridiculous that people who ordered their cars 4 months after me are getting them now. As I said before, any help would be appreciated! If you want to contact me, my phone number is xxxxxx. You wouldn't just be helping me, but also 3000 other people who are waiting!

Thank you!

Sincerely,
Dan Mathe
17, Chardon

Listen, when a company screws me over with something like this, and won't even tell me why, I'm looking to screw them over too.

I'm paying Henry Ford 's $%&#ing salary, he can treat me better.

Would you rather have a defective product show up at your door and running the possibility of getting into a collision or something (worst case scenario)

Look, you know the risks of buying a first year car, let alone one of the first few thaosend cars off the line. With that, there run the risks of defects, that's the nature of the game.

I am sure they are working hard to fix the problem, or be sure there isn't one.

A bit of advice to you... if you start complaing in a restauruant before you get your dinner, you might get a little present in your food :P

so dont buy the stang. This is a brand new car from ground up, problems are likely, ford is trying to resolve them. On a different note, I dont know what color you want but there is a red gt and a windveil blue v6 at Tri motor ford in Oak Harbor bout an hour from you for sale and a black GT for sale at Steve Rogers Ford in Waterville about 2 hours. Go to a different dealer and get one, especially if you are willing to pay retail.

Look, I understand there is problem and it needs fixed. (Or maybe there isnt, maybe its somthing small, LIKE the my color option) and they are trying to get it right.

What I dont like is the lack of information and the secrecy around it all. They need to tell my WHY its being held. They need to let me KNOW when its coming.

Its it turns out its some minor problem, that I could have been driving it all his time and waitng for parts to be shipepd to my dealer, then its even worse.

Look, in the time its taken to fix my car, they could have built me a totally new one and shipped it. Its not my fault they $%&#ed up my car in the first place. It would be different if it was damaged during shipping or something, but its not my fault, and I deserve to know whats wrong with them.

I guess first come first serve doesnt mean anything to them. They should be fixing these cars before anything else, IMO

I mean, maybe I'm off the wall here. I know I'm getting desperate, because every day I look out the window and see the snow clouds forming over Lake Erie. But tis beyond ridiculous what's happened, and I'll be damned if I don't get soemthing out of it.

I agree. Apparently one reason why people who ordered their cars back in the spring/summer aren't getting theirs yet but people who ordered in Sept/Oct are is that there was something they discovered in the first several thousand cars that isn't right. They apparently caught it and rectified it, hence the Sept/Oct ordered cars being delivered while the early order cars are still waiting for their release to the consumers.

Which do you think Ford is more concerned about: 3000 customers complaining that other people are getting their cars late, or that 3000 customers were hurt, inconvenienced, or possibly killed just because they didn't want to make people mad by delaying delivery of their cars to make sure they're operating properly and safely?

As a customer, you have every reason to be upset with Ford, and Ford should indeed be more sensitive to a customer's need for feedback. I am confused, however, as to why you should think that your local news oraganizations would even care? This is not a matter of a giant corporation creating hazardous conditions or putting people at risk, or using Ethiopian child labor to out-compete hard-working American laborers. This is just a legitimately ticked-off customer and a company that let him slip through the cracks. Unfortunate, but not news. There IS an explanation. It may not be a good one, but it exists. It's just too bad that Ford has chosen to try the patience of someone who has little to begin with. I hope you get your car very soon, but it's hardly newsworthy to a journalist. Hang in there...

No offence but I’ll guarantee they won’t look at it twice…
I don’t know where you live but even if it is a Metro area, you have to ask yourself how many people watching will this affect…. 1, 2, 3, … even at 20 it still does not matter to the larger picture.
It’s not worth there time…. Plus you don’t use the press as a bargaining tool…

This is a bit much to me and to say you "hate" Ford Motor Company..." As my wise great Dad would say, "You catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar." I'm sorry this has become such a bitter thing with you. Sometimes good things happen for those who wait and have a little patience. I'm not saying you shouldn't be a bit upset over your wait, but I am saying that such an attitude gets you nowhere. I had a Chrysler product that was a real lemon in the 80's. I know these things can happen on occasion. I was more than courteous to Chrysler when I brought this vehicle back to them time and time again. Guess what? They paid every penny of the repairs beyond warranty expiration because they realized I had been terribly inconvenienced.

I understand his frustration. It sounds like he's more upset about Ford not telling him what's wrong, and not saying that they're doing anything to get the car to him quickly. I don't think anyone would argue that any safety issue must be fixed before releasing a car, but not communicating with a customer who's giving you $25k is poor customer service. Personally, I'd cancel the order and go find one that's not part of the first run with known problems, I doubt the news is going to pick up the story anyway. But if the headline is "Ford Motor Company knowingly puts thousands of lives at risk..." you know the newspaper will run with that!
Good luck my friend.

Yes they do, and I'll add if you watch the stories you'll notice it much more than just an old lady and a phone bill...
Plus there is good reason for it... It's something almost everyone can relate to.
