anyone here have a GT with cloth interior??

i noticed i can shave a nice 700 bucks off the price

how is the leather?? or is the cloth nice enough and comfortable enough to save 700 bucks

 

I think the cloth is nice. Just go to the dealership and take a look and sit in a car with cloth. I'm getting cloth personally and am going to get vinyl aka faux leather covers mostly because I don't want my car to get stained if someone by chance spills something in the car. Also with seat covers you can get two tone color covers. I'm getting ones that are black and blue to match my car color. And seat covers will be MUCH cheaper than the cost of upgrading to leather. I hear that the back seats aren't even real leather, they're vinyl. So why pay $700 for fake leather in the back? Not a good deal IMO. I know many on the board have gotten leather, but I just don't think it's a good deal. The cloth designs are pretty cool anyway.

because i am trying to make this car reasonably affordable

if i take off the alarm, side airbags and leather it lowers the car by 1,180 or 21 bucks a month at 6.9% interest thats like gas money and stuff

and id feel mentally better with a payment below 400 a month

 

If you can't afford that stuff, you might be better off with a V6 with options. I personally think having side air bags is a prudent thing to do. I hate having to pay for the IUP, but if you want a fast accelerating car, you can buy a v6 with options you like, then pay to get the gears changes for a faster start in manual drive. Of course if your going automatic, I think you should go v6 in the first place.

 

Your'e already spending so much buying this car, i dont think shelling out another $2000 should be a big deal. BUT then again it's your decision, first thing i would say DO not compromise on safety. Go for the side air bags, if u get the active anti theft, it'll help you go to sleep a little better.
Leather is luxury, you will feel a difference between cloth and leather. both need to be taken care of. I suggest going down to a dealership, trying both, if you get the first "vibe" with either one. go for it.

 

I got the cloth because it holds you in the seat better (there's still not enough side blostering in these) and I hated taking care of the leather in my '03.
One thing to consider though is resale value.

 

I ordered the leather, but am probably going to look at getting seatcovers for the front at least... maybe those made with the scuba suit material (don't feel like looking it up right now)

 

L E A T H E R.............easier to slide in and out of the car, and it wears alot better than cloth

 

Leather.......Wife spec'd the car and that's what she wanted.

 

Personal Opinion: Keep the airbags, you can live without the rest

 

Ford's leather does not wear better than the cloth from my experience. If you want leather you can always add it later for about a grand. However, if you find leather is more comfortable, then I'd find a way to pay for it. Also, if you ever wanted to get aftermarket seats, the side airbags would be another obstacle to overcome, since you can't just unplug them and remove the seats without setting a light. If I order a GT, it will not have the Shaker 500, leather, or the security system.

 

see thats what i was thinking .. everyones like ooo side air bags are safer alarm blah blah.. i know that ...but im driving a 1993 PROBE! now lol

 

You should get what you want if you are shelling out so much moola in the first place. That said, I'm getting exactly what I want because I intend to keep this car forever and pass it on to a kid someday. That may not work out, but that's the plan. If I didn't have that as my plan, I'd compromise more on a few things (wheels, security), maybe even get the V6.

Oh, and I'm in the 'get the side air' camp. Looks like you've been hit a few times that weren't necessarily your fault (from another thread). Well, the side air seems to be largely for collisions that are out of our control (someone else running a light). They might even help with your insurance rate. They wouldn't currently for me, but my agent said they might in the near future.

And cars before the Probe didn't have shoulder belts...no crush zones...etc. You're safer in your Probe than an earlier car.

Depends on your priority. If comfort is more important to you then get leather. If you want to save money get cloth. If you are wondering if the leather is worth the money, that would depend on you as well. Only way to find out is for you to go to the dealership and sit in both and see how you feel.
I went with cloth because, first I felt it was comfortable and second leather is hard to customize. I'll be either getting new seats or atleast seat covers to match my car's color.

 

We love the cloth, it's more comfortable, looks better, and much more humane. IMHO

 

I'm getting leather in my 06 GT, but I was concerned about it wearing more than the cloth that I've had in all my other cars. My wifes 2002 Explorer is already starting to crack on the edges of the seats and so are most other leather bound cars that I've seen out and about. I'm sure it will last if you take care of it, but what's the trick?

 

Hey Jay, my new GT has the premium leather interior and I love it. However, the other 3 Mustangs I've owned had cloth and it held up remarkably well.

If spills concern you, just 3M Scotchguard the seats and you'll have instant protection. Also, I have concerns as to how well my leather seats will hold up (i.e. resist fading, cracking, etc.).

I think cloth might be a little more forgiving and might actually be a better way to go, especially since you're keeping an eye on the bottom line.
