I looked at a 05 V-6 Vert today. It had a $2,000 jack-up sticker on it. However, before I left, they priced it at $700 over invoice.

That's odd. You usually don't see markup on the V6. Especially not 2k worth.

Test drove a V6 priced $1500 over MSRP. It was a satin silver vert. Then I looked at a Black V6 Coupe and it was $2000 over MSRP. Dealers won't come down on those markups until they start getting 10 Mustangs on their lots and can't sell them. If people will buy it, they will sell it.

OK........ here is the way it went down....
Stoped by the dealership this afternoon. They have a total of about 10 Stangs of all kinds.

I was only looking at the Redfire V-6 Vert. It had a MSRP of $28,955 plus a jackup of $2,000, taking it up to $30,955.

The first thing I said was "see ya, I don't deal with add-on stickers." She said don't even look at that. Nobody pays it.

After writing the deal up, and talking with the manager, she came back with a price of $28,500. As I was leaving, the manager came out and stopped me. He took the deal sheet back in and came back with an invoice price of $26,862 and a sale price of $27,500. Makes me wonder what I could do tomorrow, if I were to go back.

I have not looked up the invoice on the web yet. So, I am not sure if the manager was pulling my chain on the invoice price.

That is the main reason why we bought a 2006. We found a couple of sonic blues out of town that we made offers on, but the dealers would NOT come down on the price and we refused to pay more for an '05 than we could pay for an '06 so we ordered. I'm glad though. I love the pony package so hey... I can wait....

Invoice of 26K is in the ballpark...It depends on the options. Auto? Premium package? Anti-lock brakes/TC etc...

I wouldn't be suprised if you showed up at your dealer to pick up your 06 and they try to put some markup on it. I got away from my dealer with no markup on my premium GT in february. Didn't order it, just found it on a lot. I can't believe some of you guys are paying more for a v6 then I paid for my GT.

Some dealers are shifty SOB's you either got to be able to walk off the lot and say no to their prices or know the owner (thats how I got mine 500 over cost, loaded V6 premium) The thing you have to watch out for is if you settled on a price with or with out tax and the salesman/owner signed off on it they can not break their word as it would be a breach of contract, the trick is get them to settle on a price and make them sign on it after that your set. I for the record a V6 vert is right in that price range, and I have seen 05 V6 coupes going for 3000 over sticker with NO moving on the price and the thing is they actually sold for that.

I don't think in our case it will happen, just because we bought from a good friend of our next door neighbor so I don't think he'd do that. Plus we got an "out the door" price quote from the dealer so hopefully we are set. But thanks for the warning... we will be aware now of that possibility.

You sound like you have a good relationship with the person you are buying it from so I wouldn't be to worried about last minute price changes. You just have to watch out for those sleezy salesmen sometimes.
