I looked at 2 Mustang V6's this weekend at different dealers and both had the left top of the decklid sticking up about 1/4 inch higher than the quarter panel. The right side lined up perfect. I remember reading something about bad welds in the rear of the car. I hope it's just a simple fit adjustment.

I saw some orange peal on the top of one at a Dealership on a V6. Here's the link to some pics, not of the orange peal though, couldn't get a good shot.

A friend of mine that used to paint cars said that maybe a defect was repaired. Sounds like maybe he was right?

My 05 GT's body lines up perfectly - the Germans or the Japanese could not do it any better. The paint is nearly perfect. Until you have seen and driven one, you just don't understand how much car you are getting for $25k.

Too bad it won't start now.

I have seen 4 v-6's and 2 GT's so far in person. I am the type of guy that looks at everything carefully. All the 05's were flawless! Everything lined up perfectly inside and out. No orange peel on these cars. Two of them were black too. I have had three new cars from Ford over the years that were black, and no of them came close to the pure shine and mirror depth of this black paint!

About time Ford you got you act together. I just wished you went 100% on the interior use of plastic. I think the new interior is about 80% there. Shame that you penny pinched on the other 20% on this beautiful machine!

Just like you under estimated on how many people are willing to pay extra, for the Interior Upgrade Package. I think you really underestimated on how many buyers, would have gladly paid extra, for softer more modern plastics for the interior!

Anyway at least your on the right track!

Mine lines up perfectly. The car is built perfectly IMO. The quality is great. No complaints here.

Stupid question to follow:

what the heck is "orange peel"?

And now after I have been heckled & yet still told the answer it will turn out I knew the answer & just didn't realize that I knew it.

Cheers mates

Orange peel is a defect in the paint that makes it look like your car has the texture of an orange from certain angles, usually up close.

Quality does seem way up on these cars. The one I saw last week at the dealer had some fitment issues, but they were very minor -- the door, and the decklid, both could have used some tweaks. But nothing like an SN95, which can be a half inch off in some spots...

Thanks. I kinda thought it might be something like that. AFTER I posted. These things usually come to me after I post the stupid questions. It's kinda like I hit add reply & then the light goes on in my head. I just wish it would happen a little sooner.

But really thanks man. I haven't seen that on any of the new cars I have seen. But there is a 1st time for everything.

Cheers mates

My 2001 had that problem.. The left edge of the decklid set 1/4-1/2 an inch higher than the right edge of the decklid.

The 2005 as best I can tell fits perfectly.
