How to program keyless entry remote?
Our 2006 mustang GT just got a new "smart box" because the terminals on the other one were corroded. We got the dealer to program one of our remote transmittors but I thought I could find the info here without having to drive back up to the dealer.
I watched the tech do some of it but missed the last steps in the procedure.
Open drivers door
Hit the unlock switch on the door panel
Rotate key to ON position 8 times
The locks will cycle unlock - lock - unlock
WHAT next? It has something to do with the transmittor but what?
Thank you.

Thank you
Thank you.
I searched on here first and could not find any information on it. Now it is here for others to find.
Thanks again.
Now I'll check some of the other functions.

well, it turned out good. I have two remotes and I was able to program the extra remote with the tips above (thanks )...However, it essentially disabled my primary remote?? When I had my jeep i had two remotes and BOTH worked oh well...

You should be able to have up to four remotes ( I do, one of the spares in the center console as a trunk release, and one on a shelf in the garage near the back of the car for loading and unloading stuff from the trunk ) and all of them working. When you go through the programming procedure, you MUST use ALL of the remotes in succession, not just the new ones.

That is listed as step 5. When you get to the part where you push the remote button ( step4 in post #3) you have all four remotes lined up and do one right after the other. ie ... step 4 with remote 1, step 4 with remote 2 etc.

I had purchased a couple of PATS key blanks, but never got them cut or programmed. Finally got it done. I now have four complete key/fob sets. The fob instructions are above, here are the PATS key instruction.
If you want to add a key....
If you want to add a key....
**You must have two original keys to perform this procedure. If you only have one key, you WILL have to take it to the dealer to get it programmed**
1. Insert and existing (working) key into the ignition cylinder.
2. Turn the ignition cylinder ON (RUN) and back to OFF. Ignition should stay on for at least ONE SECOND.
3. Remove the existing key and, within TEN seconds, insert a second working key and turn it to ON (RUN) and the back OFF. Ignition must be in ON for at least ONE second, but no more than TEN seconds. Remove the key.
4. Insert the new key before TWENTY seconds have elapsed and turn it to ON (RUN). Leave it the ON position for at least ONE second and turn back to OFF.
5. The security light will light up for THREE seconds to indicate that the new key has been successfully programmed.
6. To program additional keys, repeat steps 1 through 5
