I went by a cop doing 187 in a 65 in a twin turbo slp trans am on 880 in california lol Didnt get a warning though... (cop never caught up) Haven't been pulled over in my 05 yet though, Had it a little over 5 weeks now. I've had a cop follow me down pecos road when i had the cruise control on 50mph (in a 50 zone) with cars slowly passing me, thought that was kind of messed up (redfire by the way).

EDIT: It's my friends trans am, apparently when you get an insurance check from a car accident for $101,718, the best way to spend it is on an fbody? lol Couldnt convince him to get an 02 cobra (when this happened)

None yet..... I plan on keeping it that way, I've got a good record going, over 10 years running now
10 years running. Not bad. I started driving in October 1961 and have never been pulled over. That's almost 44 years. I'm usually 10+ the limit, do not use a radar detector, and have been 135 (a ZX-6 sport bike and a 1997 Z28), 125 (a 1978 Z28 and a 1984 Supra), etc. On Christmas Eve 1965 I averaged 95 mph between Birmingham and Nashville (about 150 miles.) Most egregious offense ever? 125 in a 35 zone. Just call me "Lucky."

One of the "benefits" of being an old timer is perspective, and it's my observation that it's getting harder every year to go really fast. There's too much traffic and too many cops. I'm pretty sure that my small town (Pelham) has more patrol cars now than the 10x bigger city of Birmingham had 40 years ago.

I've had my 2005 for a month and the fastest I've been was 90 (blowing past a minivan that was doing its level best to have an unprovoked wreck on I20.) I doubt that I'll ever top 100.

Yeah, yeah, I'm "old." An ancient 58. But since Paul Newman drove in the 24 Hours of Daytona this year at age 80, I think I've got a few more good year left. (And so far, no one has to help me in and out of my car.)

By the way, how light was traffic 40 years ago? In 1966 we used to go out on I20 between Birmingham and Tuscaloosa to do 0-60 runs. We'd come to a full stop on the freeway, then run 0-60 against a stopwatch. These days, if you came to a stop on I20, you'd be road kill.

That's an excellent post Dennis! 44 years and never pulled over?! INCREDIBLE and lucky!

I started driving 10 years after you and have had similar cars: 1974 Z28, 1971 Olds 4-4-2 W-30, 65 Corvette 396, 1980 Z28, 1984 Z28 H.O., 1987 Mustang GT, and my current 1995 GT.

I wasn't as lucky as you, however. B) I totalled the 1974 Z28 after only owning it for a couple of months. Too much horsepower for an 18 year old... I was really lucky in that accident that I (or someone else) wasn't killed - was trying to check out its top speed (speedo indicated about 140) with another guy in the passenger seat, but the road wasn't long enough for that. We went right through a stop light and intersection, between two thick trees, and finally rolled over in a field. Amazingly, neither of us had a scratch, even though the car ended up on its roof. Deservedly so, I lost my license for 6 months. After that, almost every car I have owned has been a manual tranny American V8, but I don't mess around with high-speed driving anymore at all. I'll still do burnouts on occasion, and go WOT entering highways, or when I'm absolutely sure it's cool to do so, but I'm like you - I just set the cruise control on 5 or 10 mph over the limit and let other folks worry about radar traps.

I have been pulled over once. My last ticket was in 1989 (16 years without one) for doing 116 in a 55 with a 79 280ZX- OUCH :bang: Of course, my insurance went through the roof and I sold the ZX. Bought my new GT - made it 44 hours before being pulled over for doing 90 in a 60. My luck, I was behaving and traffic disappeared - I gunned it literally for 2 seconds and went back to the speed limit. BAM! :cop2: was VERY KIND and issued me a warning. He said "there is a time and a place for that, but this is NOT that place". I said thank you, shook his hand and have behaved since. I am being patient - waiting for the "time and place" to open her up eace:
