Cool Still In Love With Original S-197's

Ours is not an 2005, but we really do love our own 2007 GT/CS! And it has become the "Family's Forever Stang"! The newer ones are so much more refined now, faster and have all of the lastest things. But thinking these original S-197's have a much more raw-gutsy hot rod sound and feel to them! Which is more of an old school tune from back in the day. And that my fellow THS friends works quite well for us S-197 lovers here!! "RC"

P.S. And so very lucky when we bought the CalStang loaded for only $27.8K brand spankin new!!

Bought mine on 12/22/04 and still enjoy it. It is not my daily driver and the original battery just started to go bad last month. It is a Mineral Grey Metallic V6 and I still love the look of the car. I keep most of my cars a long time and might trade this in when the 50th anniversary cars arrive. But not having car payments appeals to me! Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year to all.

Mine is an '08, no surprise that I still have it....especially considering I still have my '99 as well, which now has 166K miles. My '08 has under 30K.

mines a 06, but picked it up dec 05...was going to order a sonic blue gt stick, but 3 kids/4 seats meant a year long battle with the wife the day I finally went to place a order, was 2 days after order banks closed, then the wait started for the 06...three and a half months later they call(two and a half months unvinned, emailed some higher ups at ford, got a priority 1 dora the next day- took 30 days from then) my dream car had arrived, I get to the dealer and the driver had dropped a ramp on it unloading it, smashed the wing/decklid, but much worse, crushed the top/rear of the quarter panel down over a inch...major repair, couldnt even get a test drive...
Reordered, got another priority 1 dora thru regional to replace the smashed one(vin ended 134068- was sold as a ford demo car in virginia or west virginia clean with no disclosure- although the damage was repaired at liberty ford in ohio...how does that work?), and 12/17 its identiocal twin rolled in...fast forward a little ways to 4 kids, not enough seats again? nope- not enough mustangs- the wife got a matching Vista blue V6 pony, and if we all 6 have to go somewhere without the van or her truck, we can caravan in a pair of mustangs
Fast forward again, on vacation in florida, stayed up late to watch the speed channel reveal of the 2010...was hoping I wouldnt like it/want one as it woulda been hard to trade in the 06, instead the opposite occurred- I hated that rear end so bad they couldnt have gave me one...order banks closed that week for 09s, called the dealer the next morning to order one- Identical to my 06...with backlogs they couldnt guarantee reciept before employee pricing ran out, so they searched and found me the exact car, undriven in Michigan- they arranged a dealer trade, split the shipping costs to flatbed the thing down, and when we got home to ohio, called the same tow guy to flatbed it home where its still parked...have put a total of one mile on it in 2 years, just from moving in/out of the garage, couple oil changes, still never been registered or driven...yes its a waste of a nice car, BUT when the 06 finally wears out/gets wrecked/whatever, theyre will be a way to try again...always said if I could go back in time, I'd stash away a new 69 fastback somewhere- well that aint happening, but God willing if I outlast the 06, I'll have a still brand new replacement for it...sure if it sits 10-20 yrs it will need some work, but not much- in Ohio, rust is the killer, wont have any of that, I'm careful to steeer lock to lock, cycle the ac, wipers, etc to keep seals/parts lubed up a bit, park so tires dont sit at the same flat spot (but already exect they will need replaced anyways), warm it up fully every couple weeks to dry out the exhaust...yeah, its harder on a car to sit than be driven, but if its clean/rust free everything else is pretty easy to repair or replace...and I'm pretty much 100% certain there will never be another brand new under $24,000 V8 mustang gt made...let alone one that looks as good as the 05~09 body. And, if the 06 outlasts me, the wife/kids will have one they can surely get at a minimum most of the money back out of, if they dont want to keep it...
Love these cars. Was glad to see Ford dropped the base GT pricing back down a click to just under 30K, but IMO the price is still too high...I couldnt have justified that, but the under 25 range made them a pretty attractive bargain for what you got- that was what made the Mustang a success all these years. I worry with Ford pushing optioned GTs in the near 40k range that the affordability factor is being lost- and wether you drive a base V6 or a SuperSnake, I think most folks would agree the cost has been a lot of this cars success. Looks good, sounds good, power/performance/comfort, all at a affordable price- thats what made the mustang a dreamcar to me when I was just a kid...

now with many priced up in Cadillac ranges, I'm just afraid it might evolve into something different...even if better, if its priced like a lincoln Mark series, I think numbers will fall off bigtime...I have a Mark VII, great car- but how many Mustangs were sold in 89 VS Mark VIIs?
Volume is key to these cars long term survival- and as much as everyone might want a Boss 302, remember at least 2/3 sold are V6's...I just hope ford dont get too far gone on the next gen- IMO they NEED to bring back the Capri or Mark name for the upscale versions, and further lower the base V8 costs of the mustangs...read a while back the LX might return, then heard no, then heard base price just dropped a little- so Ford appears to be aware base price is still important, but personally I still think its a tad high.
the basic car is not twice the cost of another available american car- know what I mean? heck I'd love to see the return of the 4 cylinder 'MPG' package mustang- something college kids could affordably purchase and insure...cant tell me they couldnt offer a stripper 4 cyl for 16k and still make a profit on it...it shouldnt be all about profit margins as much as competing for sales- long as they make a few bucks and take a sale away from Kia, its all good in my book- and with a good looking car, it will sell, even if a stripper 4 banger...

Had a tough time answering this one. I took delivery of my 05 convertible on Labor day weekend 2005, but have since traded it for a 2008 Bullitt. I do like the new 5.0 cars and am intrigued by the new Boss. That said, I like my Bullitt a lot, so I'll be staying with her a little longer.

Still own my 05 Vert. Ordered it the first day it was possible. 1/8/05 and received her on 3/18/05. The first Vert in my area or the dealership for that matter. I still like the lines of the 05-09 best. Still buying mods for her. I will own her for many years to come.

I had bought an '05 GT used late '05. It was red with white stripes, tinted windows and flowmasters but I traded it in 6 days later for a '05 Freestyle. The stripes were not done right, the flowmasters were too loud for me and there was a popping noise. The car never really felt like it was mine.

12/31/06 I bought a black '07 GT that I plan on keeping forever. I test drove the new 5.0 GT but I don't like the 6 speed manual or ther sound of the engine. I'll keep modding until I get it right.

Took delivery of my '05 in Jan. of 2005; paid 23.7K under the A-plan. I have 65K on it now and the only money I've had to put into it besides maintenance/mods has been the alternator. I also have an F-150 (and a Ranger before that) and I've been pleased with how my Fords have treated me.

As for how much longer I'm going to keep it... A friend of mine says he wants to buy it from me, and with the money I'd get from the sale, plus cash on hand I could get myself into a 5.0 without financing. And truth be told, I'm actually considering looking at some used C6s. I've been very happy with my Mustang but I'm ready to move up market and I really do wish Ford made a competitor to the Vette.

I still have my 05 V6 Vert. Took delivery in Feb. 06. Must have been on the lot for awhile since they knocked $5k off the sticker. Got it just before a blizzard hit Pa. The stang is about to reach 70k on the odometer and has had no mechanical problems to speak of so far. It looks quite different than when I picked it up, but making it your own is the fun part.I've added a couple of go mods including CAI and tunes, but most mods have been on the exterior. With my brother's 08' stang getting totaled in a collision we had w/ a drunk driver and him getting a 2011 stang it makes it hard to not want to upgrade to a new model.

Why am I hearing more and more people getting their axles replaced/repaired? I just had my whole diff rebuilt.

Anyway, ordered my Tungsten GT in January '06, it was built Feb 23rd and took delivery on March 16th. I got pulled over the very next day! (No front license plate)

I'm still loving it almost 5 years and 55000 miles later. I've done some light modding at just the right times to keep the car feeling new and I plan to be one of those old geezers tooling around in my old mustang on Sunday afternoons

Got mine new 01/29/05. First Mineral Grey Gt in my college town and my hometown. She's been laid up a couple times to get work done, but that's par for the course when you get a new from the ground up 1st release car. Just now got into mods and am hoping to keep it for a long time. I also learned a lot mechanically on the beast, which is an added bonus.
