I want to paint my brake calipers but don't want to use the red on my redfire, yellow is out, black is a possiblity but with the chrome accents (GT flames) on the side I think it would possibly clash and the caliper is already silver, so why paint it silver?

I went up to O'Reilly auto parts today to see about having a high heat paint mixed to match my Redfire (G2) color. They can match the color in a Dupont automotive gloss paint but it isn't a high heat resistant paint.

After all of that, I want to know if this Dupont paint is a possiblity or do you think that it will get too hot and blister? Just how hot does a caliper get during normal usage?

Need advice. Thanks.

I checked over at the Eastwood Company (car restoration supplies) that sells some really nice brake caliper coating systems in about 10 colors. They are rated up to 900 degrees. I believe your custom made paint would burn into dust within days.

I think Eastwoods red caliper system would look good on Redfire:

Yeah, the "caliper" paint that I bought was rated up to 900 degrees. I can't imagine they get that hot though, I mean, at what temperature would the metal melt? Anyway, I would suggest against the automotive paint. Even the engine block paint that I saw was rated to 500 degrees and I was reluctant of that.

I used Engine 500, the ceramic is the key. offers more colors in a spray. If the rotors start getting much hotter then that, you're going to have more problems then blistering paint.

Is one of these kits enough to do all 4 calipers?

This wasn't a kit, it was just automotive paint that can be mixed to achieve the G2 Redfire color I wanted. When I talked to them on the phone, the sales person told me it was a high heat paint. I was happy to know that. I went to the store and that's when I found out she didn't know what she was talking about. I promptly thanked her for her time and left.

Anything rated over 350 deg is plenty enough protection.
Standard auto paint will melt.

Sorry..I didn't look to close...I picked the wrong post to quote! :bang:

The eastwood link...

Contents

The brake caliper paint system includes one 14 oz. net wt. can of Performance Brake System Cleaner, One 4 fluid oz. can of Brake Caliper Paint, One 1/2 fluid oz. bottle of Brake Caliper Paint System Reactor, Application Brush and complete instructions.

4 oz's seem like very little... Will that do all 4 calipers??

Thanx in advance...

Hmmm, good question. I doubt its enough for 4, as they are used to older cars with front disks only. But give Eastwood a call to find out for sure.
