I need help on this decision ASAP. My order is still clean and unsched and they pickup orders tomorrow so maybe I can change mine today. I am now undecided on the 18in 64E (fanblade) wheel option and have a few questions. :bang:

I like the Bullits much better but no way am I going to wait any longer due to 'late availability' on those wheels. I would have been happy with the Bullits and that tire size. But this makes me wonder is the 235/50/18 a good size tire for this car? I don't want to go with larger wheels, I like 18in, but I am wondering about a fatter tire. Would a 255/45/18 or even 295/40/18 be better? Both those sizes have the same circumference and speedo reading.

My cost on those 64E is $735 and gets me the 235/50/18 BF Goodrich tires and some sort of suspension tuning, which most are thinking is just different shocks? I am wondering would I be better off getting the 17in stock wheels/tires and buying my own aftermarket 18in. I would not get the suspension tuning for the larger tires though from factory. How much does that matter?

If the stock tire size is a good fit for the car, then I would only need to get aftermarket wheels. So the $735 I spend on the 18in upgrade gets me the tires and suspension at least. But I don't want to waste money on the 18in upgrade if I am going to replace both the wheels and tires.

Thanks a lot for any help

Well, the stock tires aren't bad, but 255s would be better. The only real thing I would base my decision on is whether you like the fanblades. If not, get the base wheel and buy aftermarkets. There is really no reason to purchase an upgrade wheel if you are not happy with it and will immediately look aftermarket.

I thought they got confirmation today in this thread:

Agree with you tho, they were supposed to come with BFGs but those pics don't reflect that. Ford really has me (and the rest of us) pissed over this.

yeah. I think 235/50 18's will slow you down due to larger diameter than base 235/55 17's. it should come with 45 series tires. That was one reason i opted to get an 05 instead of an 06 with 18's. i don't want a slower car out of the factory. it makes a bid difference. on my old car I went from 235/40's to 225/45's and lost 3 tenths on the 1/4 mile consistently. I would stick with the base 17" bullitts.

BFG's on 2006 Mustang...

However, this was dated back in January. The article also states 255's; this has since changed to 235's.

They have the same overall diameter as the 17" - should be no difference. That is why Ford went with the 50 series on the 235 18". If you put 45 series on these, your overall diameter would be too small (speedometer difference - too fast).

darn, how did I miss the post!
Still dont believe it, lol.
I got time, I wont get mine til november, Im going to leave it as 64E, and when the 64W come out, if not serialized, Ill switch to the Bullits 64w.

Assuming this is the final say in wheel style for 64E !

yes..your calculations are right. it is exactly the same diameter as stock 17's.my bad.I was just thinking when you upsize to 18's,,it's best to increase width too. I think 255/45' 18's should come on the 64e. only 0.2 inches smaller diameter than stock.
