I guess i'm glad I have aftermarket heated seats in mine. 2 settings and they stay on till I turn them off.

When I turn mine on, they quickly ramp up and get to the point where they're almost unbearably hot, then they start cooling off and continue to get cooler until they shut off. If I turn them right back on again, they don't start warming up again for 5 minutes or more! Apparently they have some kind of sensor that prevents them from coming on until they've cooled off to some preset point. The operation of them is inconsistent at best. They are nice to have for driving with the top down in cooler weather, but they definitely do not work as well as other manufacturer's seats. My wife's Honda van has perfect heated seats, they have a high and low setting and stay on until you turn them off. Ford screwed this up for sure.

so would anyone understand how to hack the wiring so that it doesn't have an automatic off timer?

I waited to order an 07 so i could have heated seats. i am kinda dissapointed. the easiest way to jump it would be run a different power source to the heater from a differnt switch.

its nice to have them, could have been done much better

The heated seats in my 07 are different. The driver's seat gets warm, but only enough to tell it's on, not really enough to get hot. The passenger seat gets really warm though - I keep my coffee cup sitting over there to keep it hot...

My drivers seat works fine , but it has not been real cold here yet,( this weekend in the teens ). I use mine in the mornings, when it shuts off I am just fine. Have also used it with the top down and the heaters on high.

My dad has an Expedition, ours work about the same.

Looks like the "way forward" strategy has been in effect for the past 30 years.
