What model headlight bulbs is the new Mustang using?

I ask because I'm curious about modding it to HIDs in the future once I get mine.
I've found a manufacturer, but not sure yet if they'll be compatible.

You can't just change the Bulb to make it HID, you will have to get a kit, because HID's require a Ballast. Saleen is offering one, but HID's are gonna run you like $1000 or so. And almost as Expensive to replace when they Burn Out! In my Opinion they're just not worth it. This is one reason I decided not to buy a Lincoln Mark VIII, LSC, The Headlights Cost you $500 each to replace when they Burn out. I'll be getting Sylvania SilverStars for mine, Nearly as White, and Almost as Bright! and only $30-40. Check out this link to Sylvania, giving Comparisons of their lighting across the board. From Standard Hallogen to HID, it gives Picture Comparison as wellas Costs.

Yes, I know that they require a ballast, and this kit has that.

I'm simply trying to find out if the Mustangs bulb is compatible with this system.

Also, just so you know, the kit it $310 with shipping!

P.S. I currently have Silverstars on my existing vehicle, and while they are much brighter than stock, they are still nowhere near as bright as HID bulbs!

So you are wanting to put a halogen bulb in a HID system? I am not sure I understand what you are wanting to do.

No. I'm wanting to take the stock Halogen bulb that comes with the 05 Mustang off the lot, and convert it to HID.

But I need to find out what the existing bulb that the Mustang comes with stock.

If its anyone of the existing bulbs shown on the graphic that I posted with this topic, then that stock bulb is compatible for the HID kit I'm interested in getting for my future Mustang.

Hope that clarifies things a bit.

If you use a retrofit kit (bulbs, ballast, starter), you can do it for under $300. If the bulbs burn out, they cost approximately $65 to replace.

Nearly as White, and Almost as Bright! and only $30-40. Check out this link to Sylvania, giving Comparisons of their lighting across the board. From Standard Hallogen to HID, it gives Picture Comparison as wellas Costs.
Sorry, Silverstars are not anywhere even approaching the brightness of HID's. More like 1/3 the brightness.

I have HID's on my 03 Cobra, and they are amazingly bright. When I pull up next to another car on the highway at night, it looks as if his headlights are not even on (if he has halogens) when compared with the light hitting the ground from my HID's. And they're no brighter to oncoming traffic than regular halogens (this cannot necessarily be said of all retrofit conversions -- some setups (especially ones with refractor lenses) do not shield the bulb well enough -- or at all -- and HIDs will be dangerous).

I plan on converting to HIDs down the road myself. IMO, it's a safety issue, not an eye candy issue. I'll wait until there is a high quality kit that I can use. Some sites offering "kits" are just plain scary.

There will be a high output H-13 replacement shortly.

I plan on upgrading when they come available.

Check out my post on the Fog lamp upgrade. Makes a big difference in lighting, inexpensive, & fairly easy to do.

I had the 97 Lincoln Mark VIII LSC, those HID lights were great for highway driving out in the country. I realy miss them on vacations now. In the city many people would flash and I was quick to flash my high beam back at them.

On vacation to Florida, I had a lamp go out on the way down. A dealer in St. Petersburg changed the lamp and said cost was around $1000 at the time, still that seems high

Hey BadSnake I'm glad I am not the only one to encoounter the High Priced HID Dilemma. This is why I have Avoided HID's for so long. I'm Scared of P.O.O.R! Price Of Outrageous Replacement. I Bought a 92 Mark VII LSC instead. I Loved that car, but it ended up being Totaled over a stupid Minor Accident. Because the Insurance said they couldn't find parts the same year or newer they Totaled it.

Silver stars are extremely bright. I had them on my other car and had to take them back out because I was getting flashed by Everyone. After a 9 hour drive home at night with them and having every big rig and other vehicle flashing me all the way I had a friend take my car up the road and watched him drive back with them on, they looked as though the brights were on. I took them out to be curtious to my fellow drivers. I don't apriciate being blinded on the road. I really liked them for the visability they gave though, just not at the expense of everyone elses safety.

You could have beamed them a little lower & to the right.

Hey nynvolt, I have had My Silver Stars in my 97 T-bird for almost a Year now, and The Only Time I get Flashed is when I am Running my Brights and My Fog Lights, and then it's Usually only Trucks that Flash me. I tell you what, I put the silverstars in and It Lit the Road Up Like Daytime, especially compared to the Stock Hallogens.

Bad news, even the silver stars are not availabe for this headlight. This was a new headlight from sylvania which was used on the new 2004 - 2005 F150 and there still isn't a silver star available, Appear to be some problem with DOT certs for this type of bulb.

I'm not positive about this, but I've heard there are some issues with direct replacements of bulbs from halogen to HID. Sometimes the HIDs aren't in the same spot, so the beam pattern is completely ruined, and they end up being worse. Not positive, but I've heard it.

I would have to recommend Sylvania bulbs though...partially because of their customer service. When one of the sealed beam headlamps in my car developed condensation, I emailed them, and they sent me a PAIR of new lamps within a week. Now that's customer service.

You can have brighter headlights without being blinding. You need to aim them correctly.
